LOL - again, you imposing your political views on me.

The basics of my politics are that a free and fair market is the best way to allocate resources. That freedom of speech should be paramount. Themanbun

Thing is, you've been conned into thinking a political party with which your own personal politics/prejudices align represents those values.

So when I point out the failings of that party on an issue, you default to oh look far left, far left!

For example - the Morrison Government just announced it will spend $600m on a fossil fuel poower station despite the fact that the market is showing renewables are the far cheaper option.

You just see RENEWABLES and squeak ohhh far left! In reality, I'm opposed because it is a waste of taxpayers money and a distortion of the market.

I was hoping we could have an actual political discussion, but it seems you're incapable of that.

Anyone else up for it?

What POLITICS actually means? And thus why claiming you can tell what someone's politics

I'll start with this:

Politics flows downstream from culture.

I was about to like your post because it was interesting to hear your view on your leanings, and I would enjoy an in-depth discussion of what politics means, and then you proceeded to insult me and insinuate things which couldn’t be further from the truth about my political leanings. And you complain about me insinuating your political views! Pot and kettle much? I haven’t voted Liberal once in my life, and I have no intention for that to change. Care to guess again?

“Conned” into voting for a party for which I’ve never voted? “Incapable” of having an in depth political discussion? And then acting surprised when I won’t have that discussion? After I personally invited you to PM for a discussion of my political leanings? And you wonder why I laugh at your posts :$

What's interesting here is that Daesh were using this same tactic years ago in the Mosul fight.

These are insults? Woooowwww.

I'm saying discuss politics here.

Politics is downstream from culture.

That's how we can have a good, interesting discussion.

Of course they are. Did I say they were bad insults that had me curled up in a corner? Of course they aren’t. But you expect to simultaneously insult someone in a post and invite them to discuss an in depth topic with you, and then you’re surprised when they won’t? Obvious troll is obvious, move on you sad old codger.

i honestly think a free market and a fair market are opposite ends of a spectrum.

Re that last bit... obviously.

I'm not suggesting there is an veracity to this source but I've heard this for years:

Well, I'm of the view, there was a Scottish bloke who thunk it up before me, that a free market needs regulation to exist.

And a fair market exists as an ideal at this stage.

Like, in THEORY uni entrance scores are a free and fair market - you need 95 or whatever to get into Law.

So in THEORY you should just be able to study hard and get 95 and away you go.

Anyone with a brain understand that isn't the case and that some kids from the get go have huge advantages in getting to 95 and some face such enormous disadvantage it may as well be impossible.

But certain types invested both emotionally and financially in PRETENDING it is a free and fair market will find the exception that proves the rule from the disadvantaged kids and go oh see, one kid did it, there's no systemic disadvantage.

LEAKED: straight out of Kim Jong-Uns contract he was supposed to give to the USA but ended up giving a piece of paper that states:

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
Can we climb this mountain?
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go
We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young
And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young
They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
(Talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined)
When you were young
I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know

The real discussion is that politics is downstream of culture.

Not something I came up with - Steve Bannon uses that phrase, but Gramsci and Lenin also understood it.

And in the Anglosphere of which we are a part, our politics is now fought exclusively on the terrain of Culture.

The established ruling part and mass media are desperate for this to continue.

It hasn't always been this way. Politics was for centuries, millennia, about economics. How do we divide the resources.

But 30-40 years ago, one side of that debate surrendered. The left stopped fighting on that terrain. Blair, Clinton, Hawke, Keating etc.

So now we don't have any economically Left parties in the Anglosphere.

Capital won.

And guess what - it turns out the ultra free market deregulate at all costs theory ... doesn't work.

Since that economic model has been dominant, there's been multiple major collapses, requiring taxpayer baliout. The average person has got comparatively worse off. Wages are flat, debt is sky high, both personal and state level.

But this arrangement does suit a very small number of those with existing economic and political power.

Now, to stop people from getting angry about the fact that they are poorer and worse off than they should be, by some considerable margin, distractions must be created.

Hence the "political" debate is on Cultural issues. Is why EVERYTHING now is Cultural. The Coalition are specialists at it. They've even made ELECTRONS an issue in the culture wars.

As see see just pointed out, apparently the big issue for our Defence Minister is not submarines billions of dollars over budget, or an insurgency breaking out just off our shores in West Papua, it is what people do on the morning tea break.
