Floating Public Holiday on the Monday (4th Monday in Jan, if not popular have in third week of Jan)
NAIDOC Day (Public Holiday) in 1st week of August, NAIDOC week follows
Optional: Don’t call Jan holiday Australia Day
Yep krakouers probably would prefer all of those dates you suggest. I'd just hate to see as change the date and not do what's really required.

I personally don’t think anything we on here can think of that solves the issue, even this is a cop out, but I firmly believe we are getting closer to being a republic and 26th Jan not being Aust day

Honestly don’t know why it’s so hard to change the date. Jan 26th is nothing to be proud of for Australians.

It’s a day for British colonialism. There’s nothing at all for us to be proud of.

A lot of Australians are descended from convicts sent here by the crown, or are descended from people migrated later to find a better life.

And obviously it’s very offensive to indigenous Australians who had the land taken from them.

Honestly at a loss as to why people want to hang onto this day as our day of “National pride” when there’s absolutely nothing for Aussies to be proud of. Nothing. It’s inevitable that it gets changed. The sooner the better.

yep, totally. But also, none of our public holidays - aside from Anzac Day and Labor Day - represent anything that we should be proud of as a people, and so this line of argument for protecting Australia Day has always seemed disingenuous.

We should just be upfront and say “we need a late summer holiday because we are a hedonistic people who like sun and beaches and cricket and cooking food outside and extended periods of public holidays”

Just like it's not Donald's fault that Jr is a coke head, I suppose.

Not sure what your angle is here, there's no way that Biden gets better press treatment than Trump did. He just does fewer offensive things.
I reckon Donald gave Jr his first lines when he was about 10.

Putting aside the date, don’t you think the Australia that we live in today, built by all the people before us, should be celebrated?

Important and insightful. Which, imo, makes the statement from earlier in the day all the more bizarre. Better of posting nothing earlier and the Kyron video as a statement in and of itself.
The club let a blackfella say what he thinks about it all.

That's better than some paternalistic platitude imo. Anyway happy Invasion Day!

**** celebrating it, how about defending it. We live in a police state that's no longer concerned with a fair go. While we're at it make some real efforts at reconciliation etc.

We still treat this place like a colony. We sell out shit off to foreign owned corporations for a pittance, we trash our national heritage in the process and we've turned into a nation of tight-arsed, obsequious, chicken shit cowards this century. So its kind of fitting that we celebrate the day a foreign power invaded our homeland so it could steal our shit and dump its problems here as everything that's good about the place.

Grievances aside…

2nd country to introduce national women’s suffrage ✅
Very strong candidate for worlds best parliamentary and election systems ✅
A pluralistic and secular society ✅
A stunning diversity of natural beauty in a country almost as big as Europe but with about a third the population of the UK ✅
You don’t have to bankrupt yourself to study or go to hospital ✅
An outstanding (if imperfect) balance between relatively high minimum wages vs economic freedom and strong entrepreneurial culture ✅
We’ve invented cool gear like WIFI and cochlear implants ✅
Awesome natural produce gives us some of the best building blocks for great food ✅
as multicultural as much of Europe but with less radicalised politics as a result ✅

I reckon there’s a lot to be grateful for myself, mate.
