What can we do about it?
Money is a big one. How much ****ing money are they going to spend on nuclear subs? Yet they will cry poor about the NDIS being unsustainable.

The other thing is to update Article 13 of the convention which tends to be interpreted very narrowly. I don't know how hard it is to change precedent in international law, but if they are not prepared to broaden the interpretation to include situations where the mother is at risk, then it needs to be included in the convention itself.

Yes yes blah blah big picture. Of course there is always bigger stuff going on but to brush this off as nothing is pretty short sighted. As Val highlighted...rogan gets over 10M views/listens an episode. Compare that to CNN losing 90% of its viewers in a year. MSM is in trouble. They can't paint narratives and distract people if people keep dropping off and look elsewhere. The evidence is there: why would 3 brothers have so much interest in Rogan...they aren't 3 joe blows either...they have a lot of influence.
Rogan is worth too much in potential advertising revenue to cancel. This is a distraction, as per usual.

I would have thought the fact that he receives 10M views counts against batshit crazy conspiracy theories. Of course people are going to take an interest in what you say when you get that big. If people think you are spreading misinformation and hate speech they're going to call you out on it.

It's one reason I would never get involved in politics (among about a thousand). I don't need people raking through all the dirt of my past

Yes.

I think it made sense years ago, but like so many things as times change they lose their relevence. The most obvious solution would be a change to the convention itself.

I think it only made sense years ago in that people didn't even think about it. Much like the view that it just was not legally possible for a husband to rape his wife.

But while we wait and nobody really does anything to change the convention, we should put in place as much support as possible for women trapped in Australia by the convention. Even (especially) if they cannot leave the country with their children, they should not feel that they have no alternative but to stay with an abusive partner.

Years ago it was men kidnapping kids and moving jurisdiction that prompted it wasn't it?

It was definitely a thing while I was growing up. To the point there were b grade movies made about it and South Park then took the piss out of them.

Yes:
When the Hague Convention was completed, it mainly focused on helping the left behind parent because at that time research showed that the typical abductor was the male noncustodial parent who had taken the child to a country where the mother did not have any access to the child. However, recent surveys have shown that 68% of taking parents are now mothers and that many are victims of adult domestic violence fleeing for their safety. Furthermore, other studies have shown that female parents are more likely to abduct when they were the victims of abuse, while male parents are more likely to abduct when they are the abuser. As the Hague Convention now stands, battered mothers may be drawn into Hague proceedings as a respondent to a petition accusing them of child abduction when they were attempting to protect their children and themselves from gravely dangerous adult partners.

Although a few courts have refused to order the return of children when the mother was fleeing her abuser, many courts fail to find or classify this situation as a defense to wrongful removal and the child is ordered to be returned to the country of the left behind parent. Even though the orders do not mandate that mothers return with their children, when the return is ordered, often the mother will follow her children back to the country of the abuser. This may place the battered mother and children back into physical danger. The Hague Convention may be ill equipped to deal with domestic violence today because there is no defense for women fleeing domestic violence with their children. Some judges have recognized children's exposure to violence as a grave risk and refused to return children. One formal solution would be to change Hague Convention-implementing legislation in each nation, such as International Child Abduction Remedies in the United States, so that it recognizes what the social science literature has found, that child exposure to adult domestic violence may pose a grave risk to a child's physical and mental health.

That would carry some weight if it was just random people calling him out. Not a video created by three brothers. Three brothers fathered by a top attorney that reps lady gaga, diddy, the weeknd, lizzo and more. The brothers - a litigator and civil rights attorney that reps colin kaepernick, a video editor and former head of production and social media for ellen, and an executive for a marketing and branding firm...

3 successful brothers that created MeidasTouch who just so happen to spend their spare time calling out Joe Rogan on twitter...come on. But they took the time out of their schedules to watch hours and hours of video footage to make sure Rogan is called out for his out of context comments. What saints. No ulterior motive there...

Hey, thanks for that. I reckon they will hang in there. It seems that as the middle class gets more self sufficient, they forget that there are people who need what public libraries bring. And research libraries will always have a place.
Yeah, I think so too. I certainly hope so! It really is one of the great things about our society, to have a place where you can go and read the paper, or use the internet, and of course borrow a book. All for free. When most of us can do all that from the comfort of our lounge, it's easy to forget how important it is to have that service available to all.

And generally the stuff they do for kids, from story time to craft activities and school holiday sessions on how to write your own graphic novel, is just terrific.

Good watching. Thanks for sharing. I don't particularly like Dave because he fence sits (sometimes he does interesting stuff) but he nailed those three weasels on a few issues. The kaepernick and howard stern stuff especially. Getting a text of one of them saying the N word was clever too.

All I know about Dave Portnoy is that he threatened to fire people who worked for him if they unionised.

What is it with these pricks?
Classic ferbs. I don't know anything about someone but i did a 1 min google and now i have made up my mind.

Does it matter? They didn't make it up did they?

Also, I'm not sure you really have to pore through hours of footage. All this stuff came out in 2020 when some were upset at Bernie Sanders promoting Rogan's endorsement of him. And you didn't need to do any raking at all for the Covid stuff that started it all.

Dave keeping that text in his pocket means they will never ever go after him again.

They found every mention of the N word right back to 2009. He's made 1772 episodes. A lot of those are 3-4 hours long. It's a lot of effort.

They received 4M+ in funding last year and hundreds of 1000's already this year. They'd have manpower to pay people to sit down and sift through it all if needed.

It's naive to think people just do this randomly. A journalist spent 2 years of her life watching and reading every bit of Gavin McInnes - like she was writing a thesis. Listing all the examples of racism, misogyny etc. Etc. just so there was a solid case to deplatform him from everywhere.

People are paid good money to take down certain influencers.

You don’t have to like him. Still got to respect him taking them apart like that. They obviously thought they’d steam roll him but he thrives on this type of shit. He took apart business insider last year. Rapaport tried to sue him and he took Rapaport’s lawyers apart.

Whatever you think of his character, the blokes as cold as ice.

It's funny seeing people lose their mind over again after this tweet:

I think they thought after his apology and all the controversy that he wouldn't discuss covid again or would just repeat the government narrative haha.

he can't do that!!! His apology wasn't sincere. Ban him from the planet!!!

Well, when every side is playing for interwebs wins, what's the point in even trying to have a nuanced discussion?
