By this, I assume you mean people like Royal Flush, Snake, and the dime a dozen conservative commentators who use it as the battle cry in their culture war?
100%

In the context that ferbs has mentioned above any use of the term by right wing media or online commentators is a disgusting dog whistle. If this is term for African Americans to use only then any criticism of its use by that community is inherently racist given its meaning.

I would go so far as to say then that any co-opting of its use by people from without that group weakens its meaning and opens it up to usage in the culture wars, which is what has quite clearly happened.

The notion that these middle class bureaucrat supporters could view me as "conservative" simply highlights how detached these people have become from reality and slid down the rabbit hole of social media and tabloid news cliches.

It's straight up tin foil hat level stuff. The LNP would literally lock me up & throw away the key before the wokesters could organise a rope to lynch me.

It's hilarious.

By the way what is with Australians, we are the envy of the rest of the world, in so many things, yet we have some sort of inferiority complex that we have to try and copy someone’s else system or culture..

I just don’t get it..
Embrace aboriginals, embrace the stockade, embrace the ingenuity.

Pretty much.

Even a black person in Australia doesn't have the visceral experience of living in a society that basically hunts your young men to be slaves or killed to fund their "black" intelligence operations.

It might make sense on a semantic level. I do get it, but I've never lived it.

I don't go round calling myself woke tho.
Thanks mate. Appreciate the info.

It's a pity then that its use has been co-opted by 'progressive' youth and thus targeted in culture wars by right wing media. So much polluted noise around what is a clearly righteous cause.

Not jumping into this 'debate' as this is the probably the fourth time this board has had it, but I have never really liked the term dog whistle as it is often used to smear opposition, deter robust debate and used to insinuate falsehoods without actual evidence.

You are either racist or you are not. Pretty simple.

The idea that the real working class equals white men is something that the GOP, Australian Coalition and UK Tories have weaponised to devastating effect.

The end result has been a dramatic reduction in the economic circumstances of most of those white men.

But they get multiple dopamine hits a day when they post cry laughing emojis at "wokesters" during internet discussions, so they don't actually really notice that, because they genuinely believe they are winning.

It is really quite sad.

C'mon man.

It is plainly obvious that certain media outlets use purposely ambiguous language to target specific audiences. They say enough to get their message across whilst maintaining enough distance to protect themselves from legal action.

Many, many people hide their racism in ambiguity, purposely tiptoeing around the issue. To think otherwise is naïve.

Have you seen what the measuring stick has become though mate?
Having been called, or insinuated as, a racist, sexist and evil by several posters without a shred of proof, my views on the matter are a bit biased.

In America, both parties work in unison, if you haven’t worked it out their government is literally a mafia, they take tax and spend it on OS wars, charities and ngo’s which directly benefit said politicians.

Sad thing is we’re adopting the same model here.. both parties have lapped it up. There’s no meaningful opposition.

Yeah man, that the US is managed democracy for Capital is the starting point for any discussion of stuff there.

It's downright moronic.

As moronic as labeling an anarchist as a conservative.

You do understand that these types resort to this because that is the extent of their intellectual capacity, don't you?

Read what happened, it was targeted…
Email: who funds it?
Attachment.. important part.

The Democrats took over the progressive movement in America.. this whole new wokism, comes from that..
The republicans have capitalised on it, but guarantee the patriot act 2.69 isn’t going to target, ring wing nationalist, it’s going to be used to spy on progressives..

I appreciate you don't want to get into this debate, all I'll say is not everyone sees the world in such literal terms as you.

I know you're 100 per cent genuine in what you post on this subject too.

The educated (predominately humanities), bureaucratic middle classes.

I get the buzzword stuff and I know I am just issuing my preferences as a largely straight forward type of person, but I rather people are upfront about this type of things as insinuations aren't fun and can be career ruining.

Sorry mate, but that doesn't read to me like an organised co-opting of the woke movement, moreso the development of a generic youth mobilisation campaign focussing on progressive agendas. Perhaps it morphed into an adoption of a more woke focussed position, but I would think such progressive youth mobilisation campaigns would have been tried many times over the last 40 years in US politics.

C'mon man, really?

If it is racist, call it racist, it really isn't that hard. If a media buzzword has racist lineage, then its racist; if it doesn't, then its not.

If racism really is black and white then how can it be utilised for stupid, delusional, and manipulative people?

The roots in this go back to postmodernism in the 1960's. This is where subjectivity and objective reality parted ways in academia.

20kgs of metal is no longer 20kgs of metal, it "feels" like 10kgs of metal. VOTE FOR ME IF YOU AGREE!

Totally. This isn't just on Sky News. Its on what you might call political tourists as well,m but the people who use it most are african american., they are the ones that used it as public political term and it referred to them, even if they were academics. That's all legit. Some middle class white academic saying it is pathetic. At one time I used to think that was what tef was so annoyed about but i don't think that anymore.

There's a great of deal of sense in this tweet and it neatly encapsulates what a few posters on here are FEELING but are unable to properly articulate, so can't manage to communicate without descending into abuse and cliche.

Well yeah, this position is not new. It does not however directly tie with your post about the DNC co-opting the woke movement without filling in a whole bunch of gaps with assumption. Not saying they didn't do it, but the info you provided doesn't indicate that they did it actively.
