Yeah I ended up caving and getting private health insurance after spending $20k on surgeries the public system refused to do (I can't claim these back on tax tho). Still would've been out of pocket a few thousand if I used private health, but it beats $10k each time. Wanted to do the right thing and was happy to pay the extra levy and fund Medicare, but I'm basically forced into funding the private system. Sucks.there are huge fundamental issues regarding health, it begins with funding, the current model where you are forced to take private health insurance or cop an extra 1 percent levy taxed on your income tax but then get left with out of pocket expenses if you actually use your cover and go private rather than go public is completely insane.
