Went on the Carlton board, who are a bit sensitive, and posted some stuff they didn't like, so he's suspended again.

I don't think he's coming back this time. Which is a shame cause he a caring kind of guy.
We should have a Bakers/ Tef/Mario/ and whoever else remembrance thread. A safe place where posters could gather and discuss things like their preferences, equality and AFLW. That type of stuff, it would be I feel a wonderful way to honor the most liked poster on BF.

Someone make it happen 👍

As I said earlier, I really could not give two stuffs about the bloke either way. Had some great insights, some not so great, attacked a few and had too many shitfights I just stayed clear of. Really not worth my time or yours.

A thread on him is the last thing we need - all it would achieve would be to satisfy his desperate need for attention. I'm not saying we should dance on his (Big Footy) grave, but he reaped what he sowed. End of.

And how awesome would that be lol

There is no grave dancing, as the dude clearly got some value from this place and like Choppy am sure they'd rather be here. Warts 'n' all

I know he has his issues and family troubles and I do wish Saintly all the best in the world, but what he did was just plain inexcusable.

He's set up an alt account, posted once, so he can check up on everthing. Cooper Winston 👋

After training we had a few indigenous Australians teaching us about NAIDOC week and how significant it means to them.

Something that resonated with me was how she was trying to teach her son how to explain how significant it is to his friends. She said “imagine if everything in your house was moved 10cms backwards, you’d sit on your couch but everything would feel a bit off, that’s how we feel in society” that just made me reflect on my own privilege.

What language specifically?

Healy hasn't called him lazy once this year (don't know about in the past as I haven't checked), but stated that he needs to work harder in certain areas of his game if "he wants to become a great player". And our coach alluded to this being a focus of his. Statement of fact in language that is not loaded is not racist. Nothing Healy has said in the three games he covered for us this year could be considered uncouth in any age.

The only issue I could pick up in this is the number of times he makes calls on Thomas compared to other players and perhaps that raises peoples eyebrows. Off the top of my head I think its about 9 distinct comments on Thomas which is more than most players he has called in those games, with 5 on the stuff he needs to work on and 4 on his talent and things he did or does well. Maybe its because he is unconsciously biased and picks out the indigenous kid as a consequence, or maybe its because he genuinely thinks that Thomas has what it takes to be a great player but has stuff he needs to work on. My personal read is that Healy thinks TT has all the talent in the world and would like to see him fulfil that talent, hence the criticism (as well as the praise).
You’re adding your own perceived bias to Healy comments..
I’ll change the perspective around for you.
Imagine coming from a place where you and your family and wider community has been stereotyped, as lazy.

you’re putting in a hundred percent effort, at just developing a body capable of playing afl footy. It takes time everyone understands, fans/coaches are extremely happy at how you’re progressing.
now imagine you keep getting singled out because…
but has fitness and application issues.
regardless of what was said before, this is the message that’s being portrayed.. what do family and friends at home think?
He’s not giving it his all? As that’s the message being portrayed to the wider community.
is there any evidence that TT has fitness or application issues? Absolutely not/far from it. From all reports He is just a developing driven kid making his way. Most posters on here can’t wait till he has a preseason or two. And the kicker, notwithstanding all of the extra training he is doing, can he ever shake the perceived application issues tag?

so regardless of what Healys message is before, or his intension is, it’s being lost in translation to a large section of the community.

There’s been some really good posts on the topic in the TT thread.. not much point doing a circular argument on it.

I can’t stand passive aggressiveness. Such an annoying trait. The third option is probably the best, but I’d most likely just bail or put up with it.

Yeah, I'm with ya. Theoretically the best but it's not like they'll up and fire people because of nebulous culture shifts, so most will likely just bail if and when possible I suspect. It's a shame because the good people leave and then what's left ain't desirable.

Feels like I'm at a bit of a crossroads with my work. It's been a fantastic place with a really collegial culture. Unfortunately it has grown a lot in the past 4 or 5 years and some of the people recently brought onboard are...toxic to say the least. It's like you can palpably feel the culture shift to one of latent hostility in every conversation. One thing I've never dealt well with is passive aggression.

What would you do in that position?

Suck it up and become a jerk in order to get anything done? Quietly look for other jobs and bail without mentioning why? Flag it with your bosses and hope a shift occurs (unlikely)? Find another job and then flag your reason for leaving upon your exit?

I'm leaning towards that last option at this stage. I'd prefer not to leave, as my direct colleagues I deal with on a day to day and my bosses are the best I've ever had, but toxicity ain't fun.
Definitely the last option. You were not brought kicking and screaming into the world to be miserable.

I probably wouldn’t even mention it on the way out the door, as possibility of burning bridges is pretty high, as these things never come out correctly in those settings..
always best to walk out smiling at everyone.
you can always curse under your breath if you like

Yep, and you will always be cast as a disgruntled ex employee anyway. If you work in a small industry it’s always better to let them remember your good work and miss you than put their petty little noses out of joint, particularly if they can discount your message as you have already left.

From my personal experience, once you start having doubts about whether you want to stay in a job, you're already mentally checked out and it will be very hard to check back in. Best course of action is either 2 or 4, depending on your relationship with your boss. If you have a great relationship, flag the reason you're leaving (off the record, definitely not on the record so as to not put noses out of joint, as other posters have mentioned). If you don't have an awesome relationship with your boss, it's just not worth mentioning why you're leaving, just find another job and leave and give them a smile on the way out.

Not worth trying to help fix a workplace you have no stake in. When you're the boss, sure, it's your responsibility to fix it. But otherwise, it's not worth your time and emotional effort, particularly when you won't reap the rewards if the place is fixed anyway, your bosses will. One thing a former manager said that's always stuck with me (and it's a bit of a cliche so maybe you've heard it): "you work to live, you don't live to work". At the end of the day, work is something you do to get by in your life. Sure, hopefully you enjoy it and it's a good way to earn a living, but it's not worth feeling stressed or anxious about because some people are being toxic jerks and making you not enjoy work. Just move on and find a new place. My two cents!

Don't know what he did but he's moved to Twitter and is thanking all his fans there. Unfortunately none have liked his tweet. 😄

Look, now that he's gone we're all in agreement this place is better off. Far less shitfighting, far more talk of actual football. I've enjoyed just not thinking about him at all recently.

But to just quickly dip my toe back into this pool on this topic...

From a very quick look at his Twitter account, to me it seems like he's either reading those numbers incorrectly, or he's straight up lying. (Or he had one semi-viral tweet). There's a big difference between 'engagements' and 'impressions'.

He has 49 followers. None of his actual tweets get likes, quotes, or replies, which is what counts as 'engagements'. MAYBE he got 250k~ impressions, but even then I doubt that.

My twitter account is significantly larger than his, gets significantly more engagement, and in the past few weeks I've "only" had 538k~ impressions;

All this is to say the bloke is either bad at reading stats, or lying about things to prop himself up. As usual.

So let's all just go about our lives not having to give him any attention from here on out.

Cheers!

Sir you have earned a follow

I only really have a Twitter account to follow and read others, or get in contact with some of my academic colleagues. Mostly a cesspit though, like most social media.

Twitter is great. I absolutely love it and think it has perfected the format.

Like all platforms, there's a lot of ****wits on there. But for the most part if you setup your follow feed/lists the way you want, you'll never see them.
