Yeah, it is hard to comprehend just what the Romans achieved.

Like in 50AD it was possible for someone to travel from Egypt to Syria to Greece to Rome itself, back via North Africa, pretty much safe and secure if they had cash. Not being wildly rich, but just enough to travel with.

That wasn't possible again for hundreds and hundreds of years after the Western empire disintegrated.
