Currently listening to a podcast about Robert Farquharson (dad who drove his 3 sons into a dam to get back at his ex-wife). I’m a true crime junkie and have listened to hundreds, but this one is really heavy. I’m too young to really recall when it happened at the time, but I was sort of familiar with it before I started listening - I’m just getting blown away by the horror dawning on me as the story unfolds. Not sure if I’ll finish it.

HONG KONG: Canto-pop singer and political activist Denise Ho has been banned from performing next week at one of Hong Kong's top theatres, just days after a pro-Beijing newspaper accused her of taking part in anti-China activities.

Responding to the termination of her contract on Wednesday, Ho, an anti-government activist who was vocal in her support of protesters during the 2019 social unrest, said she would arrange for a refund for ticket buyers and planned to live-stream her show next Sunday.

"[We] can't help but ask, as an independent organisation supporting contemporary art, and has operated in the city for 44 years, how can Arts Centre randomly terminate any hiring contracts without citing concrete evidence?" Ho's company, Goomusic, said in a statement. "We are very disappointed."

Roaming through the Richmond BF board, as I’m wont to do during pandemics and this post jumped out at me. It kind of confirmed what I’d suspected all season - mainly about the opposition being gifted lots of goals from frees (and the paucity of frees being awarded at the other end). Anyway, apart from the major issues regarding talent and depth at NMFC, this table helps to explain why we finished 18th ….


Mission

Here it is. The stat we've all been waiting for and one that Champion Data won't release. The definitive answer to oppos who state "it's not how many frees you get, it's where you get them". Well feast your eyes on the table below.

I've gone through every game up to the current round this year, and watched every single goal to get an accurate count. Note that this is goals directly from frees. This means:

• Player gets a free. Then has a set shot or plays on and kicks the goal.
• Player gets a free. Teammate takes advantage and kicks the goal.

This was the only way to remain objective in determining what goals came from frees. I didn't include goals that come indirectly from frees, i.e. a player gets a free at half-forward, pumps it long, ball spills over the back and a teammate runs onto it and kicks a goal. Although this goal came about because of the free paid upfield, it becomes very subjective in determining exactly how many of these should be counted etc.

Also note that I'm not differentiating between frees that were dubious or not. There's plenty of goals from frees that were absolutely there. Just as there were plenty which came from dubious decisions (Daniher diving forward vs Geelong last night for example). To the table below:

Setup

• GFT = Goals For Total. Total amount of goals from frees.
• GAT = Goals Against Total. Total amount of goals against from frees.
• DIF = Differential. Goals from frees minus goals against from frees.
• % VS = % Versus. Same as percentage on the ladder. Another way of looking at it compared to just using the differential.
• % of TG = Percentage of Total Goals. Shows what percent of every goal kicked this season for that team came from a free kick.
• GP I50 = Goals from frees per Inside 50. See explanation below.

Yep, very well. Those of us with radios heard the news a few minutes prior and there were gasps followed by the hum of chatter in the sunshine then the scoreboards had it plastered all over the screens. It was one of those “where were you when?” moments I’ll never forget.

I was in Adelaide for a buck's party that weekend. Heard the news when we were on the way to watch PA v St K - I remember it clearly. It was also the day I realised Port supporters are absolutely feral. And yes, we played Collingwood that day and lost, which was actually a good outcome for us finals-wise, as we got Geelong at the MCG on a wet night.

Texas just passed a new law that bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy which is the strictest ban in the country.

Six weeks is even before someone knows they are preggo. And they make no exceptions for r@pe and incest.

so if they are gonna ban abortions are they gonna help fund the foster care system or do they just to control women?

Joe Rogan finally got covid, took ivermectin, got over it in 4 days and people are angry at him lol.

I’m pretty sure being unbelievably fit at 54 had more to do with him not getting really sick then ivermectin. Still hilarious that people are angry at him. It’s like they wanted him to get sick or something. lol
