Bizarre column and very weirdly framed. Not eugenics though.
Oh, yeah, I wasn't referring to the tweet itself, but the content from the AFR. That was just the tweet I saw at random and posted it here but it could have been a few different ones.

Nothing sickens me more than when extremely privileged people dehumanise someone based on their financial status in a system that's rigged against them every step of the way. They're people, not human capital to be exploited.

And the ****ing idea that social workers are simply good people who decided to be 'kind for a living'. As if the standard should be that most people should treat others that they believe as 'beneath them' with contempt rather than empathy and compassion. The whole thing is just utterly ****ed.

Isnt it just paternalism, and a natural consequence of the nature of our state/citisen relationship? Its more naked here than usual, but has the same source as all the rest. People forget when authority and power started shifting more and more to the state, it was inevitable that more and more poeple would forget that there was meant to be a fundamental difference between the authority/power/responsibility a parent has over a child vs that of the state over a citisen. The barriers to that would weaken over time as the people forgot to fear, people would notice only the positive affects of the shift and when a downside confronts them blame the indivuals involved. No?
I tend to agree myself. The eugenics angle is a bit OTT.

State paternalism is a first for all versions of this thread.

Definitely a bit of a grey-issue and opinion would vary based on the individual and the particular issue, whether it be education or aspects of social welfare.

I agree.

The eugenics stuff was nonsensical, but the article itself read like something that an aristocrat would write. Full of class generalisations that does nothing to further any serious debate on paternalism.

This sort of shit paves the road for arguments about eugenics tho.

Here it is, the most cooked thing I will see today. How tf does this detestable sh*t even get written, let alone get through several editors to be published in a major Australian media outlet? This is only a snippet and there's just so much wrong with it. I can't imagine what the whole piece looks like.

I just read this.

The underclass is not always a happy place to be and bumping into the rest of the world mostly does not go well. People with chronic mental illness, cognitive disabilities and childhoods of trauma are mixed together in a sometimes brutal way, chaos and crisis never far from their door, living in a Wild Wood in their streets and public housing blocks or caravan parks.

And yet, I like them.

And since it got a mention in Cunners' thread...

Definitely doesn't help any sort of conversation. Compare those generalisations to something like the studies involving university educated v non-university educated. The latter gets used all the time.

It definitely had a "How do we monetise the mentally ill?" feel, and plenty of projection.

Ugh you know what really annoys me when lecturers but tables in their PowerPoint and don’t reference where they got it from AHHHHHHHH it makes my life harder

I'm not saying go take Ivermectin instead of vaccines but I love the way he went about that.
Same having gotten my second vaccine today. They basically smeared him and the poor bloke had to sit there and cop it.

You let these campaigners talk for a bit and they always reveal themselves.

Reminds me when I got into consulting in Australia and nobody knew I was a little rural Tassie bogan yet. A bloke was telling me how harmless meth probably is and it's junkies fault they get caught up in it. He had a similar rant to me on lazy pot smokers.

I took a lot of delight watching him trying to weasle his way out of the conversation when I told him my brother suffered with meth for many years, and how I consume more joints than a case of arthritis.

I listened to the whole thing. He had him on and the episode before was with Alex Berenson who’s on the opposite side of the “debate”. That’s what he does. He loves his thoughts being challenged and loves to challenge people as well. The entirety of the conversation was very interesting. Especially the part about young males (late teens) that get vaccinated being more at risk of hospitalisation myocarditis then they are if they catch covid. Sanjay basically admitted that it’s for the greater good.

I think Sanjay is being unfairly treated by people that have only watched a short clip of the whole conversation, just like Joe is being unfairly treated by people on the other side that have only seen a few clips of the conversation. He goes to quite lengths to defend Sanjay. He’s all praise for him.

Joe pointed out his disappointment in the way Sanjay has been treated online by people that only watched a few grabs in his latest conversation with Mike Malice

It’s quite interesting actually because you can see the ‘my team vrs your team’ thing played out. Many times during that conversation Joe says that people should get vaccinated but he just doesn’t need to because his antibodies since catching it are stronger (he showed a study to back that up) during the show.

The overall point stands though. These media “news” outlets need to stop lying because not only do people not trust them, it’s bad for business. People are turning away from places like CNN because they’re just not trustworthy.

The dude literally spends hours every week speaking to people on the cutting edge of science, medicine, technology, and has an amazing ability to retain information. Part of his defence of Sanjay was that the guy is a neuroscientist who spends (or did, can’t remember) hundreds of hours a week in his field so it’s impossible for him to be across everything that is currently in the either, but that’s Joes job, he just talks to brilliant people like Sanjay and tries to absorb what they think.

Who knows, maybe CNN actually got spooked by Joe joking that he can sue them that they put Sanjay up to going and having a talk to him but according to Joe they’ve been chatting for a while. Joe said he knew Sanjay was an honest person when he changed his stance on marijuana after studies showed the benefits of it and Sanjay admitted he was wrong about it being bad.
