How funny that the woman that organised the protest at Netflix has been outed as racist against Asians. These people really have zero awareness.

Personally I wouldn’t be bothered by the stuff she tweeted but if you’re going to be a puritan you better be pure.

Outside of Australia alot of references to "asians" are Indians and Pakistani people, south Asians in general. Especially in the UK and Canada.

I haven't really watched anything he's done till Chad caled him a wellness Nazi.

I knew he was a former junkie who got his sh*t together after doing transcendental meditation. But he seems to have got it together in a good way.

Anyway they are calling what he is talking about "The Great Resignation".

Basically all over the US (and other parts of the world people are jack of neo liberalism^ - ie no pay rises while everything else gets more expensive,) and consumerism in general. And after being locked down for alot of the last 18 months while surrounded by death, people don't want to go back to being wage slaves. There were anti austerity and general anti government protests across the planet in 2019, alot of people were jack of it. And alot of the anti vaccine mandate stuff is tied in to that as well. On top of that far right groups are looking at this discontent as potential recruiting grounds.

Throughout history pandemics have changed the world. The end of feudalism was assisted by the plagues of the middle ages, cois suddenly labour became a valuable commodity as working age people died off left right and centre. Some people trace the start of the workers rights movements that ended in unionism as we knew it all the way back to the demand for labour following the plagues in Europe.

^Yes I am banging on about that again. SimpkinByTheDockOfTheBay and I were both speculating on the end of neo liberalism as this pandemic kicked off.

Wellness nazi, yeah that made me laugh.

As more and more wealth gets funnelled to the 1% somethings got to give.

Difference between those times and the present is that robotics which will eventually do all the labour. Like how long before logistics is completely taken over by robotics?

Russell Brand seems OK now, he did a pretty crappy thing back in his junkie days by gloating to Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers) that he'd had sex with his daughter live on radio.

And yeah, the economic effects of the pandemic only just starting to be eflt. Both the Great Resignation and the supply chain inflation/shortages.

The neo-liberal economy was so precariously leveraged that a decent shock was going to knock it right off. It'll take a fair while to recover ands when it does, we'll see some of the stuff that it had previously done away with coming back - higher wages, more resilience built into what were once just-in-time delivery systems etc.

Theoretically within a decade probably. But will society actually accept completely driverless trucks?

And Amazon may reason it is actually cheaper to have disposal human labour than invest in the robots required to fully automate.

And they won't go fully auto without some form of UBI as they know people will burn the warehouses.

No. People won’t accept it. The problem is the government that they own will.

Some sort of UBI is a response but they’ll only give people enough to buy food, put a roof over their heads(and they damn sure won’t own that roof), and buy products those companies peddle.

It’s an interesting thought project because a utopian future could be achieved through robotics. The opposite is a more likely reality.

We might live long enough to see how it plays out lol

Junkie's tend to behave like ****wits. Its just a side effect of being a junkie.

Recovering and getting your shit together is worth some respect tho.

Yeah, company towns are starting to make a comeback in this regard.

Totally. He also did immensely LOL junkie stuff like turning up to the BBC the day after 9/11 cracked out of his head dressed as Bin Laden lol.

Guaranteed work or making the state a company and giving everyone shares and dividends (a form of fascism actually) will probably be better, I'd certainly prefer it. The idea of a UBI is basically the dole for everyone at the lowest rate they can get away with.

You have to pay people enough to have a good life and you have them something to do so they don't spend every minute of every day shitfaced on stuff. Once or twice a week is probably okay but every single day isn't. people need meaning and most meaning comes from being able to navigate their way thru the world as an adult, not from having everything handed to you by the state or mum and dad.

If we are gonna have a technological society then we need to end consumerism and repair our smart devices instead of replacing them. And keep in mind the advice about being shitfaced every day cos smart devices (or even what I'm doing now) is another form of getting shitfaced.

How safe are robotic trucks? Could you hack one and drive it into the crowd as they leave the MCG after a game if you were a terrorist?

etc etc

How long till public private partnerships to manage the unemployed really kick into gear?

Essentially this where things like the Indue welfare card and the Basics card are leading to.

The risk of a robotic truck being hijacked wouldn’t be any greater then a human driver doing it.

The rate at which people have been quitting their jobs in the USA had already doubled in the past years.

20211026_123728.jpg

How much of the Great Resignation is just a catch-up from the six to nine months prior, when that rate plummeted? People who would have quit earlier but hung on for a few more months because of the covid uncertainty?

There's also strong evidence that there are a lot of retirements among those leaving the workforce.

Honestly I think people are only noticing this now because immigration into the USA (and Australia) has reduced the number of people available to come in and fill these jobs. (It's also never been easier to start your own business.)

It will be interesting to see these charts in another six to twelve months.

This is excellent in terms of just how finely leveraged everything was, and how it now all jammed up.

That’s the future according to Amazon and Google.
You vaccine passport/digital wallet will allow you access to the places you are meant to go and keep you out of places you aren't meant to go. Your information will be curated according to your status. If google remains the worlds most used search engine then the people who own your software rights will pay google to curate your feed for you. That's what they want to happen anyway. Just so they can manage people they way they manage stock inventories. Its not a particularly orwellian desire to watch everyone and control their impulses, like it might have been if the religious empires of the last 1000 years had this technology. the economy would be so much easier if people just behaved like comodities.

Its already happening with the censorship of misinformation regarding vaccines for covid. And people who would otherwise question that sort of censorship go along with it cos they've been convinced its vitally necessary in these particular circumstances. People are blase about the sort of brainwashing and what have you that was made infamous by Cambridge Analytica, because they think its necessary to manage the pandemic and people in the pandemic who won't behave appropriately. And right on board with limiting people's access to places because of their vaccination staus. (Not even immunity status. If you have had covid and have strong immune responses but aren't vaccinated you aren't allowed to access places the way vaccinated people are. There really is little significant differences in immune response either, at least as far as I can tell right now.)

The sooner this happens the sooner we all get back to business as usual.

People don't want to go back to business as usual. They didn't before the pandemic and they certainly don't now. All that time not having to work while heaps of people die in horrible loneliness has probably given some people the chance to think about what really matter to them and what life is worth. They (well we) want their (our) freedom back sure, but its to do the good stuff. To socialise and celebrate life (ie going to the pub, watching live events and sports, doing their religious whatever together.) Not to be back at their shit job slaving away for the chance to do of that stuff.

And for essential workers that's what has been happening. they have to work, at greater risk than before but the don't get to go party and let off steam. or do any of the "life" things they're meant to working for.
