Let's say you have one decent TV.

North playing eliminational final in 2022. You're settling in.

Owner (and your housemate) says they've set up a movie night. You're outvoted.

Tell me then you wouldn't want your own house.
You can get a cheap tv on gumtree for about 10 bucks.

It’s crazy that we all just except this. Most don’t ever give it a second thought.

I know Jocko Wilink started manufacturing boots in the US after finding out they were literally one generation away from losing the IP on how to make them. Now he makes heaps of stuff but it’s so much more expensive.

I brought a pair of New Balance 991’s this week, cost $320 because they’re made in England and top shelf.

It’s so funny when you see sjw’s with iPhones.
Stuff costs more when you pay people properly.

Growing up in the rough northern suburbs before the gentrification, the thought of 21st century Brunswickians calling others top pretentious is a weird feeling. People from Preston/Rezza feel like the inner city northern burbs are too pretentious. I always feel super weird in Brunswick, like everyone knows I haven't got much coin and am not very cool by their standards.

Well probably not so much Preston these days as that's a long cry from its past as well.
It makes me giggle when I tell people I live in Rezza (South West Keon Park as my mate calls my street) and they say ooooohhhhhh and think it's some kind of gentrified oasis. Usually from the dudes in Courtney Barnett t shirts who think Macedon is just past Bell St.

Sorry, off to the grumpy olds thread

I get that this might have been a huge frustration back in the day but with the streaming generation upon us and most (not all tbf) people having at he very least a laptop it's not as big a deal as it used to be.

Blundstone shipped production to China but their boot prices never came down. I wear mongrell boots now as they are still made locally.
I brought a whole bunch of Blundstones when they stopped making the ones I liked years ago. Had to track them down at various disposals shops around Victoria. I'm on the last 2 pairs now tho one pair is pretty much done.

I wasn't sure what I was gonna get next so I might try them. Taipans are made in Australia too. They are great, I've been wearing Taipan fire fighting boots for decades. They are issued by the RFS tho - they're about three or four hundred bucks each. And they're very heavy but Taipan make other standard boots too.

It was a genuine question. I had no idea that was even a thing.

Not everyone has any respect (at all) for clothing brands.
Ok. Well if I was to in the future go on to work for a concession brand let’s say at a department store I’d have experience with working at the higher end brands, in which will give me a better chance at landing a job at a boutique.

ok? He asked me if we had 2 brands and I said no. Jesus you freaking make everything out to be such a big deal. I get not everyone cares about brands and stuff but some people actually do, I only care about it from a work experience perspective and how it can better me and job opportunities down the road. And I sure don’t appreciate people taking down to me, I’ve been so patient with everyone and I don’t have the patience, say what you want because you always have something to say about me since you think my attitude is so bad but I’m so done with what you say, like absolutely done.

That was unreal. I can't help but think that John wishes his dad never changed their name.
That’s what I got out of it as well lol. I’ve had three different last names and it’s a pain in the arse tbh.
Any Norwegian Jarlsberger, per chance?

I couldn't stop laughing.

I've read a bit about Monty Python and can honestly say that's the first time I have ever heard that tasty morsel before.

Imagine the stick he would have copped as a kid.

"Hey, there goes Dick", etc, etc.

thank u hoju. much help

Advised a mate years ago whose girlfriend was going to rent out a room to a guy they had never met with two other girls ( was a 4 bedroom house )

Long story short, 6 months later girls locked in bedroom whilst said tenant running around with small axe !

Re the italics - okay fair enough. I've never heard anyone say anything like that before. At least not without saying it in a way that makes it obvious the contempt they have for big brand clothing, or products of other sorts.

Re the rest.... There really is a massive difference between talking down to someone and questioning them.

Everyone knows those big brands exist because of the slave like conditions the people that make their stuff are kept in. To me those brands are scum of the earth in a lot of ways. (Tho pretty much all clothing manufacturers are the same when it comes to that sort of thing.) Charging an absolute fortune for products that cost **** all to make and are usually made by abusing the human rights of the people that make them. All the while doing PR about how much they care.

(Although its hard to find anything that isn't made in those conditions these days and when you do its usually expensive.)

I question everyone like that if I feel its appropriate. Its nothing personal about you. Maybe this is why all us old bastards think your generation are a pack of snowflakes?

Agree with you 100% on brands.

Disagree with this.

If we’ve learned anything in the past 2 years, it’s how fragile older people with all the wealth are, while younger people doing the service jobs have to cop it.

Was he saying "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in."?

Jokes aside that would be terrifying.

Old campaigners with wealth have always been fragile shitheads tho.

That's why we haven't had any real effective action on climate change over thirty years after that well known communist/watermelon Margaret Thatcher pointed out how serious it was. (Tho she could have just been using that as ammo against the coal miners union.)

Can anyone here give me some advice or tips about living with flatmates you don't know? It's something I'm considering but I'm initially a very shy person until I get to know people and I've never lived with people I don't know before.
Pretty much everyone I knew who shared houses or what have you (back in the old days) used some sort of networking to find places. So your friend knew someone who needed a place or had a room vacant and people found places mostly by word of mouth.

I do agree it’s ridiculous paying $160 for a polo shirt. I have been taught to take pride in what I do. Do I like more expensive brands? Yes. Do I also buy from fast fashion? Yes. I’m not a hypocrite like that.

snowflakes for having emotion, yeah no thanks. If showing emotion makes you a snowflake then I’m one.

Just don't take stuff so personally.

You're alright.

I'm not having a go at you personally and I certainly don't mind being hassled questioned just as much.

I wear my heart on my sleeve and if you have a problem with it that’s on you.

The latest episode with Snoop was a fun listen. Went for about 4 hours and Snoop just kept rolling blunts. Don’t think Rogan went puff puff give with him but man he was toasted. Think they smoked 6 blunts by my count.

It’s sort of funny watching the media turn on him now because he’s crushing them ratings wise. It’s like he’s become too big that they’re threatened by it. Legacy media dying is a great thing imo. He must generate a lot of clicks

This cracked me up. Look how baked he is. Lol. Anyone that grew up listening to hip hop should check it out. Didn’t go as much into death row as I would’ve liked but still a fun listen. 4E495507-A91C-4A6F-847D-E2E040E3A7C2.jpeg

Mate, that's not why people, including media, are turning on him. It's because he willingly shares misinformation and often has extremely problematic guests on his show who some argue shouldn't be given a platform.

Also -- and this isn't a criticism of you, I'm just using your post as an inspiration to post something that's been on my mind a lot lately -- the media isn't some monolithic organisation that conspire to control the narrative and direct the zeitgeist. I mean, sure, there is an almost monopolistic organisations that syndicates and often dominates the debate, but the media ecosystem is full of a diverse range of opinions and positions and viewpoints etc.

And tbh most legacy media are still far and away the most reliable source for news, information, stories etc because journalism and all its component parts -- writing journalistic copy, assessing sources, interviewing, etc -- are highly specialised skills and so often missing in the people who like to self-describe as 'independent journalists.' In fact, i'd be interested to see what SimpkinByTheDockOfTheBay has to say on this kind of thing as someone who used to work as a journo himself.

Like maybe it's just my biases but I'm far more likely to trust the ABC, The Guardian, and so on so much more than i would anyone who describes themselves as an independent journalist.

getting enough clicks for spotify to give him $100m for exclusivity on the platform.
