A kinder, gentler, machine gun hand:

I know I said I love you
I know you know it's true
I've got to put the phone down
And do what we got to do
One's standing in the aisleway
Two more at the door
We've got to get inside there
Before they kill
Time is running out, let's roll

No time for indecision
We've got to make a move
I hope that we're forgiven
For what we got to
How this all got started
I'll never understand
I hope someone can fly this thing
And get us back to land
Time is running out, let's roll

No one has the answer
But one thing is true
You've got to turn on evil
When it's coming after you
You've got to face it down
And when it tries to hide
You've got to go in after it
And never be denied
Time is running out, let's roll
Let's roll for freedom
Let's roll for love
We're going after Satan
On the wings of a dove
Let's roll for justice
Let's roll for truth
Let's not let our children
Grow up fearful in their youth
Time is running out, let's roll
Radical interpretation to say he's advocating killing brown skins.

He's paying tribute to the bravery that stopped another plane ploughing into a building full of people.

It's about standing up and taking action against the killing of innocents, it's not about singling out anyone by race or religion.

The way you're describing our recent history, its like we didn't throw out a Government because of Workchoices. Or hold a public royal commission that revealed widespread banking misbehavior and then punish them accordingly.

You don't have to be blind to the serious problems facing our country in order to be accept there's a lot to be grateful for as an Australian citizen.
There won't be soon enough if people don't start thinking about what is actually happening here.

There's definitely a redneck culture legitimized by vocal segments of the government and major media organisations.

While its a lower bar than we'd like, people aren't persecuted on the basis of their religion here.
Unless you're a muslim (or a fundy who mentions their opinion on sex in public.)

Or indigenous. Then you can get arrested practising your religion or defending your sacred places from destruction.

Bullshit

Its war mongering garbage.

You're drawing a ******* long bow mate.
So assuming that story about the people jumping the hijackers is true, and that plane wasn't shot down (which ... is a ****ed up thing but in that situation how could you not authorise it? Those people in that plane are dead anyway...)

Using it to justify this is ****ed:

Its a bullshit revenge fantasy that was used to justify the destruction of any stability in the Middle East.

Have a look how many newspaper articles and stories on the media were about that song drumming up support, not just for war in Afghanistan but for all out, anti Islamic war in general. It was pathetic drivel then and it hasn't got any better.

?? The bit where I was responding to VK saying that Neil Young was irrelevant by comparing his best album to the most successful rock group of all time?

Sorry mate, not sure I follow.
Yeah. I'm interested as to why you think that. Not in an "I want an argument" sort of way either.

Rubbish.

Do you seriously believe that was Young's intent?

It's a song from the heart that others have seized on and twisted to their own ends.

SimpkinByTheDockOfTheBay I feel like this is something that would interest you. I'm not sure how aware you are of the antiwork movement in the US atm, but there's a huge subreddit that was arguably the centre of it and had huge traction and influence.

Anyway, there's been heaps of suspicious behaviour on there in recent times with a bunch of new accounts seeming to artificially promote more moderate posts and brigade those are that are more extreme, and also flood the sub with low effort posts and memes to drown out the actual tories of people suffering.

And then apparently yesterday a 'mod', a trans woman who it has since emerged posted a lot on Facebook about being accused of sexual assault, gave an interview to Fox News of all places, after all the mods and members voted against giving interviews to media. As expected, it was a complete train wreck that just reinforced all the stereotypes of young people being lazy and not wanting to work etc.

Anyway, why I thought it would interest you is that it's so ******* obvious that we're watching a psyop/counterintel/whatever you want to call it in real time. I probably wouldn't have recognised it for what it is in the past, but I've obviously read heaps of your stuff on this kind of thing and now it's just so blatant and transparent. It's incredible.

I'm aware of the antiwork movement in the broad sense, but at the level of detail you obviously are.

But aye, it is a perfect example of how industry groups will hire lobbyists who then set up all kinds of fake accounts and bots and pay dirty trucks to smear, disrupt and generally harass such a movement.

Can't have people getting the idea that their labour is their own to deploy as they will for a price they set.

No no.

I don't really care. I lost shitloads of respect for him then and have never got it back.

People say Rogan needs to be careful what he says to his audience yet the words "Lets Roll" are, by definition, the words the US used to start the forever wars. There are multiple songs with the words in the title and everyone is in support of indiscriminately blowing the **** out Muslims in the middle east.

From "Don't feel like Satan but I am to them" to "We're going after Satan on the wings of a Dove!" - he couldn't even use cognitive decline as an excuse.

And all that bullshit he wrote afterward about "Living with war" ... what a crock. Not to mention how many many innocent people had already died with it.

The campaigner.

That may be the case but in the instance of the song by Young it's most certainly not.

To think that Neil Young supports war mongering is rather naive.

he did when he wroite a song called "Lets Roll" and like the moving finger that writes all his tears, piety and wit won't wash out a word of it.

The tragedy for us Boomers is the realisation that we’ve become our parents…

Next you'll be telling me that "Born in the USA" is a patriotic anthem for how great the US is.

It must because it has USA in the title.

:drunk:

Funnily enough when people tried to wipe out 2 Live Crew, Cannibal Corpse was one of the other bands they went after. They were also banned in Australia. For at least a decade.

Looks like there’s a new push for censorship at hand. It’s a slippery slope though because eventually the tables turn and those that censored things that don’t line up with their beliefs fall out of power and it’s their beliefs that become censored.

Born in the USA is a more anti war song that what Young wrote after 9/11!!!

Shitloads more anti war.

Disgraceful by the stupid old campaigner. No wonder punks hated boomers.

Here’s another fun Spotify podcast. Sammy “the Bull” Gravano who has killed at least 19 people working for the mob.

Where’s the outrage? Fascinating podcast btw. But the man is a stone cold murderer and doesn’t regret a thing and speaks glowingly about the mafia.

Joe Rogan isn’t gonna marry you lol you’re riding him so hard rn

Are you trying to undermine my stance on the topic by trying to make me out to be fanboying? It’s not that at all and it’s a pretty cheap shot at my integrity.

I just think it’s a gross overreaction purely due to his popularity. I’m just balancing it out. Neil Young doesn’t want to be on Spotify because of Joe Rogan, that’s fine it’s his choice.

I was just pointing out there are far worse things on Spotify then JRE. There’s literally murderers that brag about what they’ve done, but Young is fine with that. There’s people that encourage raping and then killing the victim but Young is fine with that.

But Young draws the line at someone who has conversations with doctors and scientists, from both sides of the spectrum of covid content?

Would it be better if Joe went all CNN or Fox and only has guests from one side of the isle?
