Wonder what was said for them to be pulled? Has nothing to do with what Young had an issue with because those episodes are still up.

Rogan has a target on his back. It’s like he’s grown too big and because he’s beholden to no one they’re trying to bring him down but it won’t work.

Similar thing happened after he had Bernie Sanders on before the last election.

Rogan's libertarianist, anti-establishment, pro-Americanist individualism has come to the fore during the pandemic but he is a pretty decent human being. He isn't the only person to lose perspective on certain things during the shit show that has been the last 24 months.

I hate that tired and trite defence of comedians. Comedians do not have a job description to be irreverent and "edgy". Christ, there is so much literature about humour and comedy, and we still don't really know why things are funny, although it generally seems to involve confounded expectations. (Puns seem to be universal across time and space too.)

I would have thought the comedian's job description pretty much ends at "make me laugh", which is a tough enough assignment on its own. By all means, be irreverent and question authority if that's how you want to achieve that, but it's not a free pass to say whatever the **** you want. Did the writers of Alf and Friends take viewers through a spooky mental haunted house? (long hop outside off for the wags among you right there).

The other problem with relying on comedians to "question authority" is that the conveniently clever and amusing is intrinsically of great appeal to comedians. It doesn't make it true. By the same token, it is not necessarily wrong, but I'll "make my own conclusions" based on something more than a joke TYVM.

And only in America would you consider that you pay taxes to politicians to be "moral leaders". I assume that's what she means anyway. Maybe she's referring to teachers.

Yep, and the whole point of 'speaking truth to power' anyway was about punching up and underminign those who have actual power and may abuse it. Punching down on disadvantaged and/or vulnerable communities is never ever funny and the sign of a terrible ****ing comedian anyway as well as a shitty person.

Don't quite follow you there, unless I have misunderstood her:
"Comedians did not sign up to be your hero" - nothing statement that could be applied to any occupation. Also a classic strawman argument beloved of politicians - criticism of people equates to expecting them to be "heroes".

"It's our job to be irreverent and dangerous, to question authority, and to take you through a spooky mental haunted house" - no, your job is to be funny, which is entirely possible without doing any of those things. Following from the first statement, it feels like there is an implication that comedians somehow get a free pass to be arseholes because it's part of the job.

"so you can arrive at your own conclusions" - We're drifting even further away from "being funny", it sounds like comedians have an educative role. Except they don't have to worry about sources, or research, or truth because that's all boring. At best a comedian might lead me to question something, and then I would take the necessary steps to educate myself and then draw a conclusion.

"Stay focused on the people we pay taxes to to be moral leaders" - Don't look at us - look over there! So your job is apparently to question authority and draw us to make our own conclusions, but we can't question you? Wants her cake and to eat it too - there's a serious core to comedy of questioning authority, but hey it's just comedy don't take it too seriously!

Obviously, like most Australians, I see politicians as moral followers rather than leaders.

I blame Lewis Hyde for Tricksters Make This World giving comedians an inflated opinion of their self-worth.
