Don't quite follow you there, unless I have misunderstood her:
"Comedians did not sign up to be your hero" - nothing statement that could be applied to any occupation. Also a classic strawman argument beloved of politicians - criticism of people equates to expecting them to be "heroes".
"It's our job to be irreverent and dangerous, to question authority, and to take you through a spooky mental haunted house" - no, your job is to be funny, which is entirely possible without doing any of those things. Following from the first statement, it feels like there is an implication that comedians somehow get a free pass to be arseholes because it's part of the job.
"so you can arrive at your own conclusions" - We're drifting even further away from "being funny", it sounds like comedians have an educative role. Except they don't have to worry about sources, or research, or truth because that's all boring. At best a comedian might lead me to question something, and then I would take the necessary steps to educate myself and then draw a conclusion.
"Stay focused on the people we pay taxes to to be moral leaders" - Don't look at us - look over there! So your job is apparently to question authority and draw us to make our own conclusions, but we can't question you? Wants her cake and to eat it too - there's a serious core to comedy of questioning authority, but hey it's just comedy don't take it too seriously!
Obviously, like most Australians, I see politicians as moral followers rather than leaders.
I blame Lewis Hyde for Tricksters Make This World giving comedians an inflated opinion of their self-worth.

Yeah, I gathered that. But I thought people's issues with Rogan were a) Covid misinformation, and subsequently b) some racist comments he has made in the past. I don't think calling someone out for that is expecting "heroism". However, don't get me wrong - there certainly has to be space in this world for people to put their hand up and say "Yeah, I made a mistake in the past. It was wrong and I have learned from it".Context is everything in this situation. She’s obviously responding to the hate directed at Rogan, hence “comedians did not sign up to be your hero”.
I imagine her pointing out that people should pay attention to the people they pay taxes to is because of Biden and Harris’ history of racism.
That makes him a hypocrite, not woke.Because he himself has been racist.

There also has to be space for people to put pressure on Spotify as the publisher of that content to take steps to ensure that does not happen in the future.
To be honest, I didn't even know he was a comedian, for some reason I thought he was an ex-wrestler.
In any case, saying that somehow we should all direct our attention to the sins of politicians and leave Rogan alone ... well, it just seems juvenile to be honest. One does not excuse the other.
About time someone made that joke.Look I'm disappointed that Rogan Josh doesn't have a vego version but I don't really wanna cancel it
Post 'em up and I'll dissect them. You can dissect every comment defending him. There’s literally thousands of them. I think everyone just wants to show support and are posting something. Sometimes it’s hard to do that with the character limit Twitter allows.

Have to admit I was triggered by the "comedians have a role to play in undermining authority" chestnut. The old jester and the king crap, that I have seen too many times as a defence of abominable behaviour, which, as AnEmptyChair pointed out, are frequently attacks on people far from being the "kings" of this world. Its incredible the amount of time and effort people are putting into this Rogan/Young stoush.
Its still going. Unbelievable.
1. Its an ad for Amazon.
2. What about all the other things youse aren't talking about?
I would listen to a well produced podcast based on this line of inquiry. Why has campaigner entered common parlance in most of the English speaking world, but not yet the USA? Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Ireland - it's basically just become like fu** or sh*t. Don't hear it anywhere near as much in US media. What is its status in Canada?

In my view the best way to defend him is to point out that he has acknowledged that he regrets his previous racism, although I'm not sold on making excuses about "context". (I don't know much about him, but reading his Wiki he has been accused of making mysoginistic, trans- and homo-phobic comments as well, hopefully he has also recanted those if that's the case.) He has also acknowledged he should try to present a more balanced program by interviewing people with a broader spectrum of views, but once again there's an element of hiding behind his guests in those statements. Finally, he is on board with Spotify presenting advisories with his content.
Despite the couple of reservations alluded to there, it seems to me he is trying to do better and to me that is the best defence.
I don't think it is effective to defend him by saying:
- it comes with the territory of being a comedian to be offensive and promote misinformation
- other people are racist, even if that includes his critics.
Good luck.Managed to get pushed up the public waiting list and have my ortho consult this week! That's a win. Still not sure if I'll go private though.

Re-tore my reconstructed ACL mateGood luck.
What's the issue?
Can't believe I went to the effort of googling this, but he appears to have been sucked in on the trans issue in much the same way as Harry Potter: Joe Rogan and Abigail Shrier equate being trans to having anorexia, joining a cult, and “demonic possession”He got labeled transfobic because he was critical of a trans MMA fighter that didn’t disclose that they were a male till their 30’s and then fought biological women, cracking ones skull. Hes even said he’s comfortable with trans woman fighting biological women as long as the fighters know what’s happening.
He’s got many gay friends, so the homophobic bit is just plain wrong. Tim Dillon has been on the podcast about 10 times. Also the guy who goes by the handle @worldsstrongestgay (can’t remember his actual name), he’s gay professional strongman who wears rainbow leggings during contests has been on many times. Actually he’s had so many gay people on that calling him homophobic is ridiculous. Douglas Murray is another. That’s just off the top of my head.
He’s also had a few trans people on. One not long ago actually.
Maybe they’re referring to his bit about caitlyn jenner in his comedy special but she’s one of the people that have been vocal in support of him in the last couple of days so it can’t be that.
He does just fu** around with his mates for a lot of the podcasts where they just hang sh*t on each other so maybe it’s from that.
He’s definitely not PC. Some of the conversations just remind me of sitting around with my friends and cousins and just taking the piss out of each other. Not much is off limits. It’s like roasts.

Then he has got into it all again with Jordan Peterson of all people! Spotify's Joe Rogan and guest Jordan Peterson suggest trans people are a sign of "civilizations collapsing"
However, from my five minute google research, it appears the accusations of homophobia are just bundled up with the transphobia.
One interesting thing I did find was references to his black neighbourhoods/Planet of the Apes jokes from 2020. I thought I had seen that presented as people trawling through his past to catch him out, but clearly it's been a known thing for a while.
Don't forget he used trans jokes to have a go at 2 people on twitter in 2011. He quickly deleted those in the last 24 hours. Coward. Own your mistakes.Because he himself has been racist.

Interesting thread. Highlights just how calculated these things have become, how much money is involved and the power some people have behind them.
