Maybe I’m old fashioned, but it seems like a bit of a non sequitur to consider a guy whose audience dwarves that of traditional broadcasters, and who enjoys a 100m contract with a NYSE behemoth, to somehow be outside the “mainstream media”, whatever you guys mean by that tired trope.

yes there should be more debates, Joe isn't qualified to call them out on the spot and Jamie can't pull up a science degree to fact check. Although Joe does say he would like more debates all the time.
It'd be great if he could do it. Hard, yeah, for sure.

I think it was Sam Harris who said recently that he doesn't get people on his podcast to debate specifics of covid because he simply can't fact check every spurious claim they make on the spot, and that then makes them sound like they know more on the topic despite them potentially just talking shit. So yeah, that fact check stuff is hard to navigate in that format.

It’s because he’s not beholden to advertising, or anyone really, unlike the msm. Have you seen the “brought to you by Pfizer” compilation?

He's hardly mainstream is he? Look at them having kittens about him all the time.

But lets just call them mass media and then look at Rogan.

Does he "manufacture consent"?

Not at the moment. He might one day but he isn't right now in any meaningful sense. In fact he is doing the opposite.

Speaking of people who should actually be listened to:

37.5 million Americans live below the poverty line.
40 million live on food stamps.
Almost 20 million US kids live in single parent homes.
About 13 million US workers work two or more jobs.

That Rogan has a larger audience than MSM outlets and takes a position on covid as covered previously can and likely would impact efforts to prevent spread of the illness amongst vulnerable groups, many of whom fall within these brackets. Attitudes matter and if the most sticky voice has more people thinking that actions that don't assist in preventing spread are ideal then these people suffer. And when they suffer they have far more limited access to positive health outcomes.
Average unemployment weekly benefits in the US is $378 (USD - $530 AUD) so slightly less than jobseeker in oz. Changes from state to state given cost of living differences. You get $779 (AUD) in massachusetts. More if you have a dependent.

If you can't get adequate nutrition from that you aren't doing it right. Meeting the PA guidelines is free.

As an adult male I can meet my macro and micronutrient requirements + estimated energy requirement (factoring in exericise) for $26 a week. I could get that cheaper if I opted for shit bread and items like caged eggs instead of free range.

I forgot that you can't talk about those other things though. Can't talk about PA guidelines or nutrition because that's fat shaming - if it was allowed people wouldn't be getting punted off social media for highlighting the impact obesity has on Covid.

Damn you Rogan for telling people to eat well, exericse, sleep and get some sun. Only the rich can afford that!

LOL because UI in the USA has all the same qualification rules as in Australia, absolutely comparable.

Give us your $26 shopping list too please

Rather naive.

The whole reason Spotify is paying Joe the big bucks is for advertising!

Can't see him eliciting too many followers amongst a bunch of people obsessed with a sports team, to the point where they discuss it via their phones and computers.
I can't see people with phones and computers following him much.

Well, give it five years ...

Environmental and anti tech terrorism will be a thing soon enough.

Oh yeah, shit is about to get really real.

They don’t dictate what he says or who he has on. Joe chose to pull those episodes. They got Joe on to make Spotify the number 1 platform for podcasts.
Rogan chose to pull those episodes in the same way my kids choose to tidy their rooms.

Oh yeah, sh*t is about to get really real.
An oil tanker/loading platform blew up just off the Nigerian Delta the other day. Obviously its not the most environmental response but it ****s with infrastructure none the less. Personally I think its more likely to be MEND or a successor than an overtly environmental group.

But this happened the other day too and it got me thinking about how long it'd be before this was actually driven by environmentalists not just ransomware extortionists.

He saw the clip of the old videos, hated what he saw, apologised and then had them removed. He’s got a $100M USD offer on the table from another platform already, if he didn’t care he’d take that and keep the episodes.

If you take $100m from a major global company, they do have control over you. He would be required to post a certain number of episodes and obviously there is the requirement to not publish them to any other platform. And he is compliant.

Sure, they don't decide who he interviews, but to say he is totally independent is just so naive.
