Gil McGlaughlin can bang on about how the scoreboards at Marvel Stadium are the biggest in the country as much as he wants, but I think Sydney just trumped Melbourne in the "Mine's bigger than yours" stakes. Gil's gonna have to book himself in for an extension :):

It's a wank anyway, they use the left and right edges to perminanantly show adds.

With future software uprades and multiple camera angles it will almost recreate a 3D immersive experience of what's happening on the field. There will be nowhere for players to hide duing replays ;)

They are already using these in the NFL, it's only a matter of time for Aussie TV broadcasters and on grund cameras to catch up. :thumbsu:

Watch this 7 minute video. You're right about it being probability but how do they determine that probability?

PS. Anyone who says we shouldn't politicise something is themselves politicising it.

Cool. Good video.

Rainfall rates and soil saturation also play a part in calculations here but I'm not sure the extent. As that fella said, its very imprecise. I met a guy who a hydrologist at a local county council (one that covered several local gov. areas, dunno how it all worked tbh). He knew every official dam on this particluar area of catchment, their approximate max volume and current water level. Not decimal place accurate but a good approximation.

But when it rains heavily here you see stuff like waves over dam walls that are a metre high. Temporary waterfalls falling off ridges less than 20m wide in places. So even with good understanding of how much water won't flow down the catchment its more about actual rainfall rates in short periods of time around here. And they are increasing. Its weird because we can get really heavy localised rainfall and an official rain gauge a couple of kms away make show 50mm over 24 hours (which is heavy enough) but there are areas around it that cop 100mm+ wet microbusrts or rain bombs in an hour or less.

Sometimes, if one is close but you aren't getting hit with it you can still hear the rainfall, even if its a km away. Its crazy. I saw one across the valley once and it was full on, a grey curtain just descended and completely blocked out a small area for about 10 minutes then passed.

The worst of these rain events see hundreds of mm, maybe even 1000mm in 24 hours, which maybe happened this time last year in the Gold Coast hinterland but was nowhere near as widespread as these latest floods. They had well over 1000mm over a day or two but i'm not sure of the official figures.

PS. Anyone who says we shouldn't politicise something is themselves politicising it.

Yeah, I completely agree with that.

interesting account; staggering how many of these pricks walked.
Similar story in the US - there used to be a list of sexual deviants in US politics online. The republicans were consistently the worst for underage sex and being busted being secretly gay. The democrats were mostly just rooting around (but both groups had sleazebags predators.) It was stunning how many were actually convicted. Shitloads! Dozens and dozens of politicians who were busted for inappropriate stuff with underagers. But the list is gone or really hard to find these days.

Did I ever tell you about my mate who went to a private school in Melbourne? If not I'll PM you.

Yep we certainly live in a kakistocracy where the most important aspect a politician can have, is size of their dirt file.

For those that remember, my son was born in late September, and spent most of his first 3 months in hospital, with multiple surgeries to address a congenital heart defect. He’s been home since early January and he’ll be 6 months old on Sunday. Time flies and though we’re still working through some challenges, things have been a lot better the past 3 months. His 3 year old sister loves having him home, and my heart melts when she gives him kisses on the head. Sorry for the soppy post, but there were many, many days where I genuinely didn’t think we’d make it this far. Fingers crossed for the months and years to come.
