Besides some data breaches the majority have been pretty happy with dorsey and zuck because they fell in line for the most part. As evidenced by the censorship during covid and the US presidential campaign. Sure they'll get called in every now any then and asked questions so it looks like politicians are doing something. But all it turns out to be is "unsure, I'll look into that" on repeat and nothing ends up happening. Regular people shrugged off any data and privacy issues and just say "well I've got nothing to hide" and continue to use the platforms.

It'll be a very different story for Elon. I mean he memes...won't somebody please think of the children!!! He was too busy with square, bitcoin (wanting to spend months in africa educating people), and doing yoga for multiple hours a day to really care about maximising profits. Elon on the other hand...i think he has 5/6 companies now all worth over a billion dollars. The man prints money.
