there are huge fundamental issues regarding health, it begins with funding, the current model where you are forced to take private health insurance or cop an extra 1 percent levy taxed on your income tax but then get left with out of pocket expenses if you actually use your cover and go private rather than go public is completely insane.

Yeah I ended up caving and getting private health insurance after spending $20k on surgeries the public system refused to do (I can't claim these back on tax tho). Still would've been out of pocket a few thousand if I used private health, but it beats $10k each time. Wanted to do the right thing and was happy to pay the extra levy and fund Medicare, but I'm basically forced into funding the private system. Sucks.

I must say there is so much stress on the ambulance sector it’s so sad but at the same time frustrating.

First QTR of my game on Sunday a girl from the opposition brakes her leg the same way Will Powell did in a tackle. At the end of the game she was still in the club rooms waiting for the ambulance.

We have quite a few nurses including an emergency one for the childrens and she said it’s totally typical of ambulances to take forever to come.

Best mate is a paramedic. Takes him 5 hours to unload a patient into emergency these days. Nothing they can do.

One of my best mates had a heart attack last year, he really stresses about a relapse and the ambo wait times. I don't car what the reasons are, the government need to fix it.

That's awful.

When I was much younger I broke my arm badly in a work accident (extremely lucky it was only a broken arm).

This was in a small nsw country town, my boss drove me to the hospital as they knew I'd get treatment much quicker that way than waiting for an ambulance.

My cousin worked at the company not long ago, one of the problems is the amount of non urgent calls they get..like people who tested positive for covid, people that have had a light globe out, blocked sinks, pranks etc. it’s why they’re really pushing that “if you don’t need the sirens” number. The ramping is obviously real but a lot of people that don’t need an ambulance call 000 and clog up the system.

It might not be the case anymore, but lots of people used to call triple 0 to get an ambulance to come treat someone when a doctor to the home was a better option, and could also be bulk billed. Once you have paid for ambulance insurance, or have the correct concession card, ambulance visits are free and no long wait in emergency. Was a big problem.

I looked up why it’s so bad. It’s because it’s a prion disease that they only get from eating other cows. Apparently cow remains get into the feed and it sends the cows crazy, it goes straight to the brain. Almost turns them into zombies and if people eat them they can get dementia. It’s like natures way of saying cannibalism is ****ed up.
