What was going on in Afghanistan in August 2001?

Al Quaeda was planning to kill Ahmed Massoud who was at one time a customer of Victor Bout.

I've also heard it suggested Bout was one of the initial go betweens when Al Quaeda and the US worked together in the former Yugolslavia in the mid/late 90s.

And obviously working for the Soviets.

The Soviet Union was 5-10 years dead by then and Russia was a bit of a basket case at the time. There wasn't really enough of the Russian State left to work for. Gangsters tho....

Yeah I should have written Russians. When the Soviet Union collapsed the whole joint was ran by gangsters. Putin isn’t asking for this bloke back for no reason.

This reminded me of a show I’ve been meaning to rewatch for ages, I’m watching it now, Operation Odessa. ****en wild. Have you seen it? Its a documentary about these dudes that buy a submarine from Russian gangsters just after the collapse of the Soviet Union. They offer to throw in missiles with the sub. Crazy story. Really funny too, because the main guy who calls himself “Tarzan” is like a cartoon character.

Does anyone know how much notice I’m supposed to give as a casual employee
No notice needed. I normally encourage people to be polite though and let 'em know a week or so in advance, but just as they can take shifts off you, generally as a casual you can decline them and end the engagement whenever you want. Technically every shift you work is a new engagement.

There is something to be said for looking after your coworkers by giving notice, and can be used as an example in future interviews that you didn’t want to leave others in the lurch. Not your boss, your team.

100% we have a very close knit team where we all cover each other’s shift and stuff like that + they just hired a new intake of staff.

Trying to work with my manager about my availability has been absolutely hell. I do them a few weeks in advance and nothing on my roster changes, when I tell her I’ve got someone to cover my shift she doesn’t change my shift or put it on their roster.

My co worker and I have been stressed because she won’t change either of our schedule times for this Saturday and we have even gotten a team leader involved and it’s still not changed.

I still feel a slight bit of guilt for, in my younger years, waiting until a Monday morning to resign.

Basically the employer who promised about 10 casuals a bunch of work coming up, to the point other colleagues declined job offers, decided to go back on their word and give all the shifts to two people (one of which was me) and advised the rest they won't be needed in future. We found out on the Thursday and my next shift was Monday. I was already umming and aaahing about resigning due to having something else come up, but was furious at how my mates were treated so waited til 8am the Monday morning to resign. It probably ruined the week of my one colleague who was left, which was unfortunate, but all I could think about was vengeance.

Actually having typed all that I don't feel much guilt at all. If things were on better terms though I would've taken my own advice and given some notice.

No job is worth that stress mate.

The job has brought me so much anxiety.

I will never forgive my manager for spreading lies about me.
All the more reason to give them stuff all notice! No one needs that.

Hope the new job treats you much better.

Congrats on the new job.

Unless you're being paid bucket loads no job is worth too much anxiety.

Hope the new one goes well!

Heading to Europe next week for a month. Going to be a solo trip.

Yes, it's f***ing grouse.

My tip: if you're in Budapest, don't get in a Unicum drinking contest with some random 120kg+ Finnish dude you just met at a bar. This goes double if you've got a flight to London booked for 7am the next day.

Also, depending on where you're visiting, try to get to some local soccer matches. Quite often there are CL qualifiers in August that put some of the bigger clubs up against teams from smaller/ lesser leagues.

Whatever you do, you'll have an absolute ball. I'm jelly.

LOL- I said they were like carnie folk and can't be trusted. And we supported * during the Hird years and that they have been dodgy for over 100years.

Sheesh the main board is a place only North can be potted it would seem.
