As much as i abhor the sort of ranting and scaremongering dutton, joyce and even sam newman are going on with i cant see any tangable outcomes that will improve aboriginal health and wellbeing. Mind you i dont think that putin realy worries to much about that sort of stuff but when a mate and your old chef owns a PMC i guess it makes sense to utilise them. They prolly like to keep in with the chinese and some of the northern african nations that they have alliances with.

This is my current governing theory of world affairs - the old days are back.

The likes of Chadwiko (and to be fair our political/media elite too lol) remain in a late 90s West Wing world of wEsTerN vAlUeS and "unprovoked invasions" and the like because they can't cobnceptualise that the world they grew up in and lived for a fair chunk of adulthood has gone forever.

And that unipolar Pax Americana world of rising (seemingly) living standards and universal values and democracy was absolutely a historical abnormality.

The true nature of the world is back - seasons guide human affairs first and foremost (COVID showed us that, so does the effect of winter on the Ukraine war), but also mercenaries and no single power able to dictate its will.

If the last 50 years was about Manila and Lagos looking more and more like London or Sydney, the next 50 years will be about London and Sydney becoming more like Manila and Lagos.

We will see and live through things in very short order we thought impossible

Imo china is the main game and everything else is just a distraction. They play the long game to perfection and i cant really see any scenario that will curb their rise. Western governments lack the discipline to keep the course and are to easily distracted by the election cycles and the reach of big buisness. Our governments domination by the big 4 accounting firms is a good example

I realise you have a particular opinion in this area, but assuming it can be proven that it was not "unprovoked", are we also denying it was an invasion?

Most certainly an invasion, but again here the language is interesting.

We were constantly told how it was an all out invasion with no regard for civilian life etc.

Reality is it was far more conscious of civilian casualties than Western methods - as per the attacks on Iraq and Serbia.

(EDIT to add - saying it happened organically is probably the best description possible mate. Its a shitty ethno-religious feud between two very closely intertwined groups that flared up periodically. Its more like a family blue than anything else, so happened organically is a great description)

That's not the same as unprovoked, mate.

i.e. it can still be labelled an unprovoked invasion (which I tend to agree with) even if they invaded in a 'careful' manner to avoid civilian casualties. Though even the latter didn't last long if you look at actual civilian casualties.
