Im a first Gen Australian mate and I was never taught Indigenous history during my schooling years through primary or secondary. I grew up with a couple of Indigenous mates, and it never made any sense to me until I explored Indigenous history through the Museum of Melbourne. I had no ******* idea. I walked in as a naive bloke who had his own families experiences of war and fascism but I could not fathom how that history was real. I acknowledge First Nations people even if I still dont really understand.

I dont have guilt. I have a sincere acknowledgment of Indigenous peoples.

I think the people who have benefited on massive wealth have guilt .

A vote for yes was a small thing I could have done which never impacted me on any level
To me this was the big one. The majority of our indigenous peoples wanted this. It didn't affect me in any way. Why would I deny them something which may make a tangible difference to their lives? The current system is not working, why vote for more of the same? I'm sure many people have valid reasons for voting no, and the voice was a bit imperfect, but we shouldn't let a lack of perfection hinder progress when it comes to such important issues.

What can ya do now mate? Im a socialist activist, a staunch militant unionist.. I never leave one behind. It hurts knowing we are continually leaving people behind.

But refusing to provide any details left the door wide open for the fear campaign. It left too many questions unanswered, and it was very easy for those people who were a soft sox months ago to vote no.
This, they dropped the ball from the start, took too long to form a msg, the msg was rubbish, didn’t provide a suitable reason to vote yes over no and just pretty much assumed we would

Many years ago when i was a young man forming my opinions on the world alot of now dead blackfellas said exactly this sort of thing. Sometimes the contempt they had for elements of white society, capitalism and the economy - based around the fact we'd let our own people starve or go without a bed, even when it was their own stupidity that led them there... it really got to me.

The lack of compassion for other humans was something that really got to them. It changed the way i viewed the world because it was a constant among those people and in the writings of a few older dead backfellas. Those old people were alot deeper thinkers than most people i'd regularly met before I met them.

We live in the “selfish” era. In 1000 years time when kids study history, our current Era will be a stain.

looks like the old chopchop trade in melbourne is really heating up, ( no pun intended)

Police say there have been 29 arson attacks linked to the illegal tobacco trade in Melbourne over the past six months, after two more tobacconists were torched at the weekend. Residents of an apartment building in Glenroy were evacuated after arsonists firebombed a tobacco shop in the early hours of Monday morning.

It is. Indigenous people in Australia.
This is what shits me about the whole episode, the indigenous people were used as a political football again. Regardless of the outcome we should’ve had enough power behind this to make meaningful and lasting changes.

Think about how much money was just wasted, if all those corporate schmucks actually got behind the cause, rather then virtue signal ‘yes’, we’re talking some of the most powerful organisations in Australia who ran behind this.
instead we go back to the status quo and these orgs will find the latest cool thing to chase after.
Disgraceful, top down disgraceful.
