Lake Taupo is great. I also liked Rotorua, but it's a bit smelly.

Also Hojuman watch out for the Kea's on the trip to Milford. They are extremely smart, friendly and are pests. They'll strip the bus of all the rubber trims, get onto the bus while you're out eating lunch and eat your shoelaces.

You'll have a great time. All of the above suggestions are great places. Loved Queenstown, Milford Sound, Wanaka. People are friendly.

Couple of general casual observations. If you are driving, hope you don't mind cornering, hair pin corning, steep climbs, steep descents, more steep climbs and descents while cornering and hair pin cornering. Couple of roads are so steep and sharp, that cars with trailers/boats are advised not to drive that road! The locals drive at speeds that freaked me out. Funny thing though on freeways I found they all drive relatively slowly.

If you get the chance to go caving with the glow worms, it is amazing, but many of the caves have no safety or signs, just looks like someone's back paddock as a car park and you wander into the cave at your own risk and go as far as you want. Don't do it if it's been raining!

Sounds like you are only going to the South Island? The drive through the center of the North Island - the volcanic plateau, is a complete contrast to the rest of the scenic drives, which are spectacular, just baron and dry and not what I expected. At least there were some straight roads!

Hope you get some warm weather at Lake Wanaka, it's a bit surreal swimming while looking at the snowcapped peaks.

Also, if you can, highly recommend a helicopter ride to the top of the alps. A few to choose from. Pick one that lands and lets you out for a walk. Most amazing view I've ever seen. Anywhere around Franz Josef etc. And if you are after some adrenaline the Shotover jet boats around Queenstown are fun. Or if you are after a quiet adventure hire an electric bike in Arrowtown and there are plenty of trails along the river - it's just out of Queenstown. The town itself is worth a look.

I lived in Queenstown for a year about 20 years ago. Absolutely fantastic place, as is all of NZ. My 1 piece of advice is do not underestimate how cold it can get, and fast. Have a great trip.

I'm sorry but diagnoses for a condition like this doubling in five years is just implausible.

I have no doubt increased/improved methods are behind SOME of them, but this is also largely a social phenomenon, with myriad drivers and contributors.

And yes, part of it is ADHD becoming "fashionable" as a way for middle class people in their mid to late 30s finding way to justify them not "fulfilling" the ability they were told they had as kids or their own expectations not being met.

Its the predictable end result of a generation of kids being assured they are special" or "gifted" and "can do whatever they want to do".

Because when it turns out hey aren't particularly special and that what they defined as "success" hasn't materialised, they need to find a REASON, and in our pathologised culture where pharma companies are desperate to sell you a meds for anything, that's very easily packaged up as a CONDITION which PREVENTED you becoming an astronaut or marine biologist.

As I said earlier on the thread, I've just watched a guy I've known for decades blow up his life after getting one of these "diagnoses".

And as I said there, I have no doubt that increased awareness is certainly behind SOME of these diagnoses, which are entirely legitimate.

Yeah, all just me making it up.

My adult ADHD drugs felt like a lifeline. Then came the scary side-effects …
