I was expecting them to say how inferior the P8pro chipset is or something similar. The heating thing reminds me of the early Samsungs that were prone to that plus fast battery drain.

I've been with Pixels since the Pixel 2, and I have the Pixel 7 now. While I still like it, they're not what they once were. When I had the Pixel 2, I felt like I had the best smartphone on the market. These days the modern Pixel phones are good, but aren't blowing away the competition - I have a good smartphone amongst a sea of comparable devices.

In essence they are (I think) fighting over reproductive rights.
