Correct. Which is a sad state of affairs.
Its always been like this tho, especially in the US.

Well not always but for over 100 years. The mass media is a means of framing and control and its like that because of what it doesn't say as much as because of what it does say. Carlson is just a media equivalent of a major League sports star in the US who is past his use by date and not interesting to other ML teams. So he's gone to a lower league with a big splash and some noise and that lower league will generate a bit more interest and economic activity for a while but something else will eventually appear on fox to take his place and spout the same stuff.

Q Anon isn't some crazy shit. Its an expression of a "legitimate"^ voice in US politics that's been around since at least the end of ww2 but probably since the civil war and the end of slavery. Some of its ideas - fed vs state politics for example - are probably fair and reasonable discussions that have been hijacked by a political side to push their agenda but some of their shit is a straight out call to return to slavery, eventually. Its a significant political demographic. Maybe similar to the 20%-ish of people that Pauline Hansen cultivated before the Liberal party screwed her and dog whistled them away.

People used to talk about two factions in US politics - Cowboys and Yankees - and they were basically another version of the divide that used to be represented by the Mason Dixon line. One of those groups wrapped themselves in progressive value and the other in some rank versions of conservatism.

These days the divide in the US seems different. Its more between the coastlines and the so called "flyover" states.

Q Anon is a form of appeal to the paranoid style in US politics from the perspective of people on one side of this "new divide" and its potentially very dangerous. When someone like Colonel Paul E. Valley comes out in support of it you know there's some deep (state, lol) weird shit going on.

^Not imo obviously. I think its sus as and very far from legit.

This is new media, been up for ten minutes and already received 750k viewership by the time of posting.

Twitter view counts are a total furphy for what it's worth.

It counts being shown in someone's feed and having auto-played for 2 seconds before someone scrolls away as a 'view'.

Depends on what you’re arguing here, if you are after numbers for marketing budget I’d agree;
What people have been discussing previous page is influence and reach, and if you check the cord cutters numbers on cable tv, it’s a declining medium, what was it peaked at 100m subscribers a couple of years ago? estimated 10% loss per year from here.

I'm simply stating that you shouldn't put a huge amount of weight in social media view/impression counts.

Because by those metrics, my Twitter account is one of the most popular forms of media in Australia:

Yes because Tucker Carlson sitting on half a million likes/shares is equal to Chads impressions.

Only have to look at the audience that Rogan gets per episode compared to legacy media that show’s legacy media is dying.

Yesterday afternoon I was driving with the kids when out of nowhere, my 6 year old asks "Dad, why did van Gogh only sell one painting in his lifetime?"

Random.
Did you tell him it was cos people in the old days had proper taste in art?

Hope you took the little devil to the immersive Van Gogh experience at Jeff's shed ?
Unfortunately no. However, we'll head to Europe when he's a little older and hit up the Van Gogh Museum (among others) in Amsterdam.
