as always on this date (November 11th)
my great-granddad went over the top at 9am that day. a poem written about him (its has some none PC names for people)
(Written in France By a Sergeant In Capt Brown?s Company)
Tis was the eleventh day of November,
In the year of old eighteen:
When the boys in France,
Were taking a chance
With Jerry across the Rhine.
T?was the boys of old ?B? Company,
?B? Company?s last twenty-one,
Who stood in France that very day
And heard Lieut. Brown say:
?We go over at nine,
There?s a gap in the line,
It?s up to you, so get busy,?
Well, we just stood up and looked at each other
From where had the order come?
That would send up across?t
When our men were all lost,
From shell, gas and exposure.
So our thoughts all turned to Battalion
To Woodward the Gold Leaf Man,
Who sat in a chair
With much of an air
Told what his Batt had done.
There wasn?t a bunch who were gamer,
With Brownie to lead us across?t,
But we knew the guns stopped at eleven
And we hated to pay the cost.
But we spread out in the open
With Brownie at the head,
And every man waited for it to come:
Well ?it? came when we advanced a kilo
A box barrage laid down from the hill.
And every man took to cover
And every man wanted to kill
The Huns who were causing the mischief,
But what in the world could you do:
With scarcely any protection
And Fritzie had the range on you.
There was Platakis, the wop, from Chicago
Who got some gas in his head
And Fulton a first-class private
Who just missed a ton of lead.
When one of the ?big ones? came over
And burst with an awful roar
When he came to he?d got some gas
And this cut us down two more,
But the rest were lucky, I tell you
And every man whispered peace
So we all crawled back to where we started,
?B? Company?s last twenty-one
For the Wop and Fulton were with us,
And we know our ?bit? was done.

I thought half the original number of bitcoin were still unaccounted for and the guy who invented it disapppeared years ago. His original wallet is still untouched allegedly.

Billionaires hold most bitcoin and alot of other crypto too. Its not some democratic thing.
Typical ferbs. Shit on governments all the time and everything they stand for but then contradict yourself by talking nonsense about something that pushes back against them and provides people with an alternative. No doubt knowledge aquired from a 5 min google search or 15 min podcast you listened to. Or some conspiracy theories that satoshi is actually the NSA or globalists.

You can see all the code. You can see all the wallets and track movements. You can take the code and change it if you want to. It's decentralised. Old money can pay for articles and spread all the theories and stories that they want but it's a lot more decentralised than traditional money ("back in 2010/11 these wallet could hace done this...these 6 mining companies could join forces and commit a 51% attack etc. Etc." A lot of coulda woulda but didn'ta. Rep. Sherman has been one of the most vocal over the years...the usual - only anarchaists use it, make points that are the classic example of 'zero-sum fallacy', misstating the differences between bitcoin and the us dollar (USD can be inflated by the federal reserve when it prints new money), many more. Unsurprisingly, like most that push these narratives, he has ulterior motives. A look into his donors highlights that he receives money from credit unions, credit card companies, american bankers accosciation, older investment firms and even the californian gaming association. Perhaps you should have a think about when the information comes from before you start to parrot half-truths.

I know your next point will be about environmental impact. But it uses 56 times less energy than traditional finance and is projected to have net zero emissions by 2024 - first monetary system to achieve such a feat. All those greenies that complain about Ethereum and NFTs killing the planet...well it's begun shifting over from proof of work to proof of stake resulting in a 99.95% decrease in energy consumption. I do find this topic hilarious. Extinction rebellion doing the work for traditional finance and the elite without even realising they are...

It's disingenuous to say billionaires hold most bitcoin because a lot of them made their fortune because of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Obviously an elite class would rise up if the price has increased over time.

The winklevoss twins used their 65M facebook payout to buy bitcoin in 2012. Roszak - 2012. Draper - 2012 when it was $632 each. Others developed exchanges that people use or developed working products. With the benefit of hindsight this looks like nothing but it took balls to throw big money at something so speculative. Long before most even knew it existed. Even holding throughout its long history of reported "deaths". Capitalism exists. I know in your world of bernie sanders fairytales you prob think they should donate all of their wealth above 10M but that isn't reality.

What the **** does that have to do with what I typed?

Everything. You've thrown out the environmental impact before, democracy, billionaires. Just your stock standard throwaway lines based off a podcast.

What just happened was Ali vs Liston II...you got KO'd stiff before you could even get warmed up.

Saying that crypto is bad for the environment is akin to saying that electric vehicles are bad for the environment because the power they use comes from coal powered electricity plants.

That is true. Electric vehicles are a bit of a con. Probably great in a city tho.

Don't give me that crap. I wasn't even getting stuck into crypto, just pointing out a couple of facts.

Its not some democratic thing. Its just another currency. There are other currencies too, you just don't know about them.

Once upon a time (ie two decades ago) beer was a currency.

Not really though.

Electric vehicles are significantly better for the environment compared to the existing standard (petrol/diesel vehicles). Therefore they're a big, big step forward.

You cannot say the same for crypto.

Crypto solves absolutely nothing about existing financial currency systems, but adds in layers of complexity that mean it's difficult for regular consumers AND retailers to embrace it, all while being incredibly environmentally unfriendly.

You don’t think they’ll have to ramp up the grids to accommodate for electric cars?

Where do all the power plants get their energy from?

And unlike the the Crypto, the mines used to remove the material needed for the batteries that make electric vehicles possible, The Cryto mines arent using conflict minerals, destroying the area where they pull them from the earth from.

Not to mention, when people refer to environmental impact they are referring to old data. The new Ethereum network is the equivalent to watching netflix for 2 hours. Elon highlighted the impact BTC has and people like Jack Dorsey decided to push for positive change. In 2 years when BTC has zero impact on the planet people will need a new excuse.

People need transportation.

People don't need crypto.
If it's not needed why did the democrats submit multiple bills that included plans to create a digital dollar? They planned on pushing it through during the covid relief bill. (Link to the pdf is in here: JD Supra: Democrats Unveil U.S. Digital Dollar Proposal In COVID-19 Relief Package)

Senator Brown of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs press release discussing the need for it to help the unbanked and underbanked in the US (Brown Introduces New Legislation To Help Hardworking Americans In The Coronavirus Relief Package | United States Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs).

Australia pushing forward with their plans to develop a central bank cryptocurrency (Australia Pushes Ahead With Central Bank Digital Currency, Announces Pilot Timeline - Decrypt).

Tell me again how people don't need cryptocurrency...

Makes you wonder why governments push the narrative that cryptocurrencies are bad but then aim to create their own...no ulterior motives there...

My brother works at a lithium mine in WA. You should see the scale of the place and the amount of equipment.
None of it runs on unicorn farts
Well i presume unicorn farts are also made of methane so ... maybe it should.

This is a somewhat deceptive chart.. how do those compare on a per user basis?
Has BTC also made the switch?

TBH, your response is weak.
Electric vehicles have much lower lifetime emissions compared to combustion vehicles.
Mining a BTC block isn't the same as a mining for coal or gold or nickel or lithium or whatever, each BTC is mined in competition, so all the energy that the losers put into mining the coin is lost.. monetarily at least, the emissions aren't lost though.

Goodness me. E-Vehicles, Bitcoin, Emissions etc

I have no idea what anyone is talking about (nothing unusual)

Carry on.

For the record I hate electric vehicles.

You hate the current options, or you hate the entire concept of an EV?

I can understand the former, but the latter confounds me.
