The Taliban and other hate groups are also on Twitter, but never got banned, even though they’re responsible for this,

I hate the oft-repeated right-wing talking point about "the Taliban are allowed on Twitter!".

It's most often used to whinge about █████ having been banned, but like all things from the conservative cookers, it's bereft of facts.

So here is the actual truth;
  1. The Taliban are the government of Afghanistan.
  2. Twitter did ban a whole bunch of "Taliban" accounts. Lots. Any Taliban account that was posting violent footage or messages were banned. It was done quietly and without any fanfare because that's standard operating procedure.
  3. Twitter elected to let the official Afghanistan government/spokesperson accounts remain active.
  4. Twitter also said that if those accounts ever incite violence, they're gone.
  5. The only remaining "Taliban" accounts are all connected to Hibatullah Akhundzada and his office.

So basically the takeaway seems to be that Twitter’s content moderation is about as messy as you’d expect?

The "Twitter Files" were a massive fizzer.

First things first, and most importantly; Elon Musk's idea of 'free speech' and 'transparency' is to release the files to 1x single reporter who only writes stories behind a paywall on substack? And what's worse, he only gave Taibbi the files "under certain conditions"? What are those conditions?

Furthermore, Taibbi's reporting was full of opinion and "characterisations" from "unnamed sources".

Lastly, up until recently Taibbi had been ADAMANT that the big issue with the "laptop story" was that the "FBI" or "government" had suppressed the story;

But now?

Even Fox News is calling this a fizzer.

From the minute that Musk started promoting it, I started wondering what the quid pro quo is for Taibbi. Judging by that message to his subscribers, looks like I’ll have to wait a bit longer.

This is just twitters hype man getting eyeballs. And trying to distract from the fact it’s become the neo nazi platform of choice.

Extremely obvious attempt at deflection.

Spose it’s equally as bad having Israel on there as the Taliban because of their grotesque apartheid regime.

That’s the funny part, everyone saying Twitter is done, yet the engagement at the moment is off the charts.

If all the people outraged by the current situation left the site and made their own it would hurt Twitter, but nah they don’t care that much.

Or Iran.
Or China.
Or Russia.
Or Belarus.
Etc.

The Twitter rules used to be actually really simple; invite or promote violence, get banned.

█████ used to say all kinds of moronic and false shit on his Twitter and it was fine.

He wasn't banned until this happened:

No he’s not. He’s just reporting on what’s going on.
If he was just reporting on what’s going on, he wouldn’t be coordinating the publication of his story with the owner of the company he’s reporting on.
There’s a quid pro quo for sure, but I’m not sure what it is yet.

We just went from a mid-term election straight into the World Cup. Of course usage is high.

But that just means the operating costs are rising too, at a time when advertising (which made up 90% of Twitter's income) is at an all time low and still plummeting.

Twitter is in massive trouble and Elon knows it.

There’s a shit tonne of bots. Have a look in the comments. Eyeballs mean nothing when ad revenue is sinking.

Musk has got his much desired approval from alt right edgelords but they are commercially toxic.

Twitter is in strife.

Nah he’s got more integrity than that. No doubt he was given first access, but maybe that’s just because he is bipartisan in his reporting.

Time will tell. Twitter did a mass cull of bots the other day. PBD thinks Musk will turn Twitter into a trillion dollar company. PBD knows his stuff regarding business development and investment.

If Twitter goes under it literally won’t effect Elon at all. The blokes building electric cars and sending things to space. This is just a lark for him.

He’s making EVs to sell carbon credits and reliant on government contracts for space exploration, and that has stalled.

Distract? Or pandering directly to that demographic by promoting a story that is one of their tenets?

Since he bought Twitter, Tesla's stock has plummeted.

None of this happens in isolation.
