Ever since █████ got elected alot of people I would think of as liberal with a small l became more fascist authoritarian.

If you've followed his career since he started blogging or within a few years of it, (blogging was so muchg better than twitter too. people could explore nuance and you had to be a good writer to delve into something properly,) not just post Snowden, which happened years later, then you'll see that Greenwald has followed this trajectory of being increasingly disappointed by how authoritarian the mainstream left became over the 21st century. He's primarily an anti authoritarian. Which is why he did the work he did around Brazil, that he doesn't get enough credit for obviously.

Right now in Brazil there are rumours of a military coup with the aim of preventing Lula from taking the presidency. Greenwald played a key role in exposing the right wing assault on democracy that saw Lula locked up. If he's appealing to tories and libertarians then he's appealing to the people who would support those who would probably kill Lula given the opportunity.

This is not necesarily a bad thing. If they then are exposed to more centrist and left wing ideas in a spirit of ... well the opposite of most political discoourse today, which is becoming more and more like that second series of the Tomorrow People ... then perhaps they won't stay as rabidly right wing.

In the US the left was anti-authoritarian for most of the 20th century and even earlier. And classical liberalism wasn't even a left wing thing. It was Menzies ffs. In comparison to other forms of politics that came before it, it was one of the most freedom oriented forms of politics of its time (the 1800s).
