The whole tea party thing was based on racism. They used "socialist" as a code word for black.

But .... Obama being a black man was massive. It probably got him a shit load of votes from people who ended up voting for Trump in disillusionment as well. Because it was a symbol of how far the US had come in less than 50 years. From Jim Crow laws where black men couldn't vote or join political parties to a black man in the white house. It was back when they still believed in something about the US.

Then the likes of the Koch brothers secretly mobilised a whole bunch of media and other cultural leaders and turned poor old white people against him, started the Tea party movement to undermine how the US democratic system worked and here we are 15 years later with Biden in power and nothing left to believe in over there.

That's an actual conspiracy by the way. One that happened, tho it wasn't necessarily illegal. A US website called Mother Jones broke the story. They had the likes of Glenn Beck pushing their media program - all to capture the republican party and gain control of the house after the 2010 mid term elections. It worked too. And all because they didn't want a system of universal healthcare.

So in that sense Obama was up against it the whole time he was president. US internal politics has some differences between the parties but they're pretty much the same thing if you're in the rest of the world.

I’d love a table saw in the garage. My house was built in 1942 and the only thing that has been modified since is the bathroom. I want to build a new kitchen, but I don’t fancy using my power saw and straight edge to do it.

Made a couple of endies before! Edge grain is my usual go to for gifts, etc. though. Get some of the benefits for knives with a much shorter process. Not quite as good as an endy but half the hassle.

I picked up the Hikoki Jobsite saw. It's as good if not better than the DeWalt which I have at my old man's shop. Rack and pinion fence is a huge positive so it doesn't misalign every time you set it (only the DeWalt, Sherwood, Sawstop and Hikoki have this feature on Jobsite saws). I have no idea why they dropped it to $699 but I couldn't resist at that price.

Would love to get a proper cabinet saw at some point, but with some mods and adjustments you can make up some decent cabinets with the Jobsite saw.

Have you got a track saw? I know some blokes who have made decent cabinets with a high quality track saw.

Yeah my sacrifice for a workshop is my car constantly gets shit on by birds. I need to spend some time making everything properly fold out and on wheels.
