If anyone wants to make a true crime podcast, they should look into Delphi murders.
From such an open and shut case, to now, everything about the story is unbelievable.

Awesome.

Animals aren't stupid. Years ago there used to be more roadkill, but eventually they learn. One day I saw a wallaby mum actually stop her joey from jumping out in front of the car i was driving and I slowed down and looked in the mirror and it was eerily like she explained how dangerous roads were and taught the kid to cross safely. Very similar body language to humans around roads with kids.

I guess eventually enough joeys would start to see their mums (or vice versa) wiped out by cars on roads and only on roads bot random paddocks or scrub. They'd begin to work out what was going on. Animals evolved to process information critical to survival too.

Its my long held belief that we will be talking to animals in my lifetime,

Obviously militaries already are, and its knowledge certain communities developed in some places outside of formalised Western systems.

The mob around Eden had clearly developed a highly socialised relationship of equity with local orca.

They were talking to each other.

Dolphins too. There are stories all along the east coast about that relationship, and in Fiji that i know of.

No surprise they're the first creatures we've been able to have two way convos with in the Western sense outside our own aka primates.

I reckon we will rapidly grasp just how complex animal conversations between themselves are too.

Have you seen the very excellent flick Arrival?

I reckon some of the whale song communications methods - especially the big ****ers having to sing across oceans - will be similarly conceptually different to the heptapod language.

But orca language seems remarkably similar to our own - its about being able to rapidly communicate orders for hunting and killing

Field of View.

Tho technically in that story its information that gets sent straight to the visual cortex without coming thru the eyes. From the moment the information leaves your eye and enters your central nervous system its being processed and interpreted so that hack interferes somewhere along that pathway.

Yeah it's particularly bad today;

The magpie numbers have exploded in my area and they come up to the front door almost every day and warble for hours. I give them food every now and then so I believe they are passing the message on to each other that I'm cool. Never been been swooped yet.

Can't remember the study but it's pretty well established corvids can communicate descriptions to one another

I knew a guy who reckoned he used to talk to them. He was an initiated aboriginal guy. He was an amazing fella who led a very interesting life and ended up an anthropologist.

There was a particularly agrro magpie in Lismore near the Lismore Swans footy ground that he never got swooped by, said the secret was to say hello to it. Once I walked past outside swooping season and looked at it and said "Hello and Keith says hi too." It gave me the weirdest look and I have never been swooped by it in my life.

I do it all the time now.

Rarely get swooped by magpies, maybe twice since.

I used to have full wars with them before that too. Chase them with sticks and tennis rackets. I could jump so I tried catching them in the air at time too. That actually stops them swooping too. If they swoop you for the first time and you can jump high enough to nearly catch them with a shirt or something they'll never do it again. Young mans game tho.

But none of that mattered since i started talking at them. (Not too them, I doubt they understand English.)

EDITED - Shirt not shit. lol.

Holy shit, reading now sounds very effed up.

Probably the worst way to go as far as animal attacks. Grizzlies are pretty notorious for eating their prey alive. It reminds me of Timothy Treadwell.

For all the memes about our dangerous wildlife at least we don't have to deal with those.
