Yep, Murdoch is a disgrace for our nation and for democracies worldwide.
As for Albo, I’m not particularly a fan but he’s not responsible for what has been some absolutely disgraceful and blatantly misleading campaigning by elements of the No side.
don't disagree, but Albi had to have know about, and should have been ready for, the bullshit No campaign.

As a nation, we're going to lose international reputation and standing, and deservedly be mocked, for voting 'no' this weekend.

What a terrible reflection on this country this whole saga has been.

There was a path to this passing, but Albanese is a Sydney idiot who stuffed it from the get go.

First and foremost, it should never have been held as a stabdalone referendum.

Should have been with the next federal election.

I'm no great Albo fan but I absolutely would not be placing the blame for the Voice failing as his feet.

I'd start with Lidia Thorpe/Jacinta Prince types, first and foremost. They provided just enough cover to conservative/racist/morons to say "see! even they don't want it!"

So it was the opposition to the voices fault it failed?

Of course this falls at the feet of Albo and his inner circle.

More so that the 'No' camp ran an effective negative campaign, by muddying the waters with some pretty shithouse tactics.

Dutton capitalised on that negative campaign in a way that Albo (not the leader of the 'Yes' camp btw) could never have done with the 'yes' campaign.

Dutton was a non event in this, I don’t think many people listen to a word he says.

Have a look at the spendings between the two campaigns, especially print media, like signs and things, the campaign was a no go from the get go because Albo was a clueless idiot. He ran a campaign that was successful to inner city Melbourne and Sydney, not the rest of the country

Explain to me how this is Albo's fault? I'm confused.

It never should’ve been vote to start with, the government should’ve signed a treaty two decades ago.

we’re left picking up the pieces of this shitshow.

Constitutional amendment has to be a vote. Can't change that.

He’s done an abysmal job of selling the yes case.
If it doesn’t get up it’s his fault.
You don’t go pushing for constitutional change without spelling out the details.
He’s asking Australia to change the constitution without spelling out the details and what actual impacts the constitutional change will have. Australia doesn’t vote for constitutional change often, only 8 out of 44 referendums have passed since Federation.

What more could he have done? He's spruiked it well and explained in easy to understand manners over and over and over again why he believes the nation needs it. He's brought together politicians from all parties on the issue. He's been highly visible and vocal about it.

As I said I'm no big Albo fan but I really struggle to blame him for the Voice not getting passed. Literally what more could he have done?

I'm sure Sky News will try and blame him though.

That was the recommendations after mabo in the early 90s, government basically has sat on their hands since
Where can I read this?

I know Hawke was very involved with the idea of treaty (the Barunga statement etc) but when Keating took over it never really got brought back the level Hawke had it at.

100% he’s explained why he believes the nation needs it.

But he hasn’t provided details on proposed legislation, how The Voice would be selected etc.

Section 3 of the proposed change is what he’s failed to sell. He’s basically just saying trust the government.

“the Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, including its composition, functions, powers and procedures.”

...but that's how every power in the constitution works; to take any one of a multitude of examples, the constitution provides the commonwealth with a defence power, which the parliament then used to enact legislation - or put another way, the Defence Act 1909 wasn't put forward at the moment of Federation.

so in a nutshell we needed another comittee? i mean thats what it boiled down to.

You do realise what you're saying here is that people shouldn't listen to indigenous voices.

I think treaty would have been a more digestible idea for the average Australian. Had the referendum been on this, I think the Yes vote would have passed.
