I think treaty would have been a more digestible idea for the average Australian. Had the referendum been on this, I think the Yes vote would have passed.

Treaty is more unpopular than the Voice.
Because this is a nation of absolute backwards morons.

For example, one of the few major opinion polls that looked at both issues, back in 2019;

66% support for Voice to Parliament
59% for Treaty

Just look at what's happened to that 66% support for the Voice once the conservatives and SkyNews types started rallying against it.

Treaty wouldn't stand a chance, unfortunately.

Visual chart of public opinion polling on the Voice over the last few years.

Unfortunately, negative campaigns and lies work.

I've voted at the same place for decades. Today was the weirdest I've seen.

Usually its a great vibe and even people handing out different HtV cards are old friends. Today was ****en weird.

Very subdued and people weren't stopping for a chat with everyone the way they once did.

It's over.

Tasmania, Victoria, NSW projected as 'no' votes.

Shameful.

It is a shame.

The blame rests squarely with Albo’s inability to sell it.

I have no hope because can’t even follow the international treaty, the sixth convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment*

*in regards to the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees in immigration detention centres

A No vote will look terrible on Australia internationally. We're already infamously considered racist.

If you look at the reputable studies on racism by country Australia is very much on the lower end of the scale.
Scandinavian countries generally rated least racist with some European countries Canada, NZ and Australia on the next tier down.
While Middle Eastern and Asian countries fill the most racist spots.

I voted yes, my wife voted no.

I live in cairns and the people handing out the "no" cards were indigenous. I asked why - she said they didn't want to be considered different. Or a victim.

I am just taking it that mainstream Australia values egalitarianism more than anything and the majority thought that this change would threaten that. I don't agree, I think the Voice was just a way to bring First Nations groups together so they can have a coherent message, but so be it.

Yeah, the folks who couldn't stomach a fairly harmless advisory body are gonna just love a treaty....
