Fuvk.

Surprised he lasted this long to be honest.

Saw him play a few times.

But there was a Christmas Eve gig in Dublin must be 20 years ago now.

Jesus, the atmosphere in the pub before then on the walk down to the venue.

Like being in a grand final where the crowd was all on the same side

So good it was worth saying twice.

Saw the Pogues in Melbourne over 30 years ago.

Within three or four songs Shane had drunk three bottles of strong booze and fell over. they dragged him off stage, hit him up with something and he came back out. He lasted another three songs and a bottle before he fell over in the corner and passed out.

The rest of the band were great tho. So ****en good.

Anyone who can write beloved poetry like Fairytale of New York and also get himself banned off the BBC for reminding people that:

There were six men in Birmingham
In Guildford there's four
That were picked up and tortured
And framed by the law
And the filth got promotion
But they're still doing time
For being Irish in the wrong place
And at the wrong time
In Ireland they'll put you away in the maze
In England they'll keep you for seven long days
God help you if ever you're caught on these shores
The coppers need someone
And they walk through that door

Yet another of my favorite Pogues songs. There's about 150 of them.

But that particular bit is right up there.

I used to fruit pick a bit when I was younger and ended up in the Station or railway hotel, whatever its called, in Mildura one pay night at a huge corner table with about 30 people I'd never met before belting out pogues songs at the top of our lungs. I wish i could call it an actual memory, instead of something I just kind of know i did from a few vague flashbacks...

Obvs everyone has their favourite, but this is mine.

As you say, perfect pub singalong material. But you can also sit by yourself with a few whatevers in your and listen and hear the ancient terror of war and language of loss.

Right up there, in the Ablett, Carey, Blight, Matthews echelon of their songs yeah. Would have sung that one that night i reckon. great ****en record.

LOL God is in his heaven having billies down by the bay.

On Sunday after the game I ended up drunk with a Brummie mate at Wadeville singing the odd Pogues song. This one made an appearance.

This is the best poddy I’ve ever listened to

It’s funny how all the ex gangsters are now podcasting. Reckon Moudi Tajjour, ex president of the Nomads was the first with can’t fight fate, he’s the cousin of John Ibrahim. Definitely was the first bikie IG influencer

In Australia anyway. Alot of US gangsters still alive have podcasts

I went to the Devo concert at the Palais the other night with my best mate, 41 years after we first saw them at Festival Hall. Even clocking in at 55, we were definitely at the younger end of the audience demographic.

Unsurprisingly, Girl You Want and Whip It were absolute highlights. There might be a few hip replacements needed as a result of the crowd getting right into it.

The band are on record as saying this is their last ever tour and this was the last show of the tour, so it's possible I've got "I was there at Devo's final gig" bragging rights.
