As a side note, I can't stand this soccer ordeal. Trying to watch it and just can't hold interest.

It's about as fun to watch as an enema or something.

I like it, purely to appreciate the tactics

It's like a chess game

I found the 2006 and 2010 Word Cups interesting enough, more for the patriotism than anything - for that matter more the former, I suppose. I had not the faintest ideas about tactical happenings, however. My critique primarily went down the lines of, '**** this guy's soft; **** they're all diving barstards.'

I was a former chess captain at my school.

I just didn't like the way he was insinuating that I was insulting Chess. DOGS HAVE FEELINGS TOO YOU KNOW

You will never, ever find me insulting chess. Great game.

Unfortunately, most others seem to think it's some sort of poindexter marker. Pricks.

So tonight, one of the members of my high school graduating class (2009) was killed. I wasn't even that close with the guy, but I have this horrible, empty feeling.

Does anyone else ever get that? Someone you don't know all that well passes on, and it cuts you real deep?

shit sux

Yeah mate, I think when it's a peer of yours like that, it cuts deep not just because of the sadness that they're gone, but also because the fact they're your age, and you know them, can strike at your inner, subconscious sense of vulnerability- in other words, if it can happen to a peer, it could happen to anyone.

Three people from my primary school year level are dead already- one from suicide, one from cancer and one from a car crash. Each one was a rude shock and left me feeling empty, even if I had lost contact with all of them for several years at the time of their deaths.

Happened to me last year. Someone I went to school with took their own life. Was not best friends with him, but was a great person who I got on well with. Was very sad.

No I'd already shifted that to an external hard drive. ;)

Pardon the philistinism but what is "confirmation" or is it as it sounds?

I trust you'll be changing your username to Dr Wahooti Fandango?

Basically have to make a presentation to some academics to show that on track and that will finish. Probably the biggest hurdle. I think the pass rate is about 70%. Once you have passed it the rate of completion for PhD is about 98%.

Be the 2%. Defy the odds. Snatch failure from the jaws of victory.

We believe in you.
