After you've had an interview (presuming they ask for referees).

they asked for refs already in the application - i flat refused saying rather than jeapordise my current employment i'd wait to see if i was succesful moving forward in the recruitment process before offering a couple.

they wont even tell me the pay rate at all! theres no way ill burn a bridge here before knowing what the pay is over there.

I hate employers like that. I'd be tempted to tell them to gagf then. Not telling you the pay is potentially wasting not just your time but theirs as well. I had a situation once where they contacted my referees before they offered me an interview. You'd rather know what other people think of me before even meeting me? When they eventually asked me if I wanted an interview I told them no. Not interested in working for a company that works like that.

its a hospital, gov ran... not for profit. Maybe everything goverments get involved in turn to rubbish ;)
If that's the case you can find out the pay rate by looking at the level of the position. As far as providing referees in the application go I would say you have a personal policy of not providing them until after an interview due to being burned in the past. There's no good or fair reason they need them before they've spoken to you.

do you mean the level of the position as in a letter and number code in the position description? or just the actual award rate for the particular role. Do i assume gov jobs always pay bang on award?

applying for a new job today, covertly so as to not alert my current employer. I feel like a dirty cheat. At what point to you alert the authorities and ask for a refernece? one that will potentially make your work life hell if you are unsuccessful ?

also cleaning your FB profile of all profanmities and tin foil rantings as akin to quickly cleaning the house the minute before you parents come back from holidays
Just slightly alter your Facebook name.

So, you say 'rowt' for route, 'rowt' for router and...

Trying to get my head around this is leaving my pea brain rooted.
Yep you pea brain :p. Eg the rowter needs to rowt packets while taking this root.

The pronunciation of cache is another one that confused me at first when talking to an American. I pronounce it as caysh but they pronounce it as cash.

I just had my first 600ml coke for months.

Man, once you desensitise yourself from coke, 600ml is WAY too much. I feel a bit sick.
That can happen with beer as well. Read some posts on the health and exercise board where guys went months without a beer, only to chuck it up after having just one.

Just wanted to pop in and wish all the Essendon family a very merry Christmas from the depths of my heart. I hope a dozen sweet little cherubs come and perch themselves on your window on Christmas Eve and treat you and your family to a festively soothing rendition of "Silent Night". :)
