Yeah, on Joe's message board they talk about how he pretty much has an addiction to Provigil, a drug often used to aide with studying as well as for weight loss.

I got around to listening to that podcast last night and even Joe hooked into Aspery about his undisclosed addiction. The guy is losing some of his credibility.

on the other hand, most of the people in the party have still signed that 'no tax raises whatsoever' pledge which is kinda a barrier to achieving economic reform/overcoming the upcoming challenges

Regardless of the side of politics you fall on this is not a good outcome for the American and Western World economy. The US are riddled with debt, an interest bill they simply cannot afford, the dollar becoming more devalued by the day and two sides of politics that are so far ideologically opposed to each other they can't even begin a negotiation let alone complete one. Obama for all his good intentions hasn't done dick about that in the last 2 years and I can't see him doing much about it in the next two. Hope I'm wrong though.

Not that I expect it but it would be nice to see Obama actually deliver. I was on his bandwagon like most people in '08 but it was disappointing to see what happened during his presidency. I don't see where the Republican party goes from here, but I presume Chris Christie is the expected nominee.

they can overcome those problems if they decide they want to. the gop's whole 'rely on angry old religious white men + the people they can intermediate and influence to win election + opposing everything done by the other guy' has failed, so I don't see how they have any option but to compromise to some extent, unless they want to further isolate themselves from the real world (and they're not a libertarian party yet...), and Obama and co will come to the table if the gop come to the table and throw up something other than insane ideas. plus the bush tax cuts automatically lapse if they don't do anything so that won't please grover norquist

I don't really get what people mean by Obama not delivering. I mean, if you expected flying pigs that shit gold, yeah you're ****ed, by saving the motor-industry, something akin to a sane health care plan, repeal of don't ask don't tell, out of iraq, a clear plan to get out of afghanistan, deciding to go into pakistan because that's where everyone expected osama to be and guess what, and some other stuff. if you expected him to turn the economy around and get back to 5% GDP growth and 5% unemployment when no-one had any idea just how bad the economy was collapsing when he took power, then well you overestimate how much influence the prez can have. He made sure it wasn't as bad as it could be, started the slow path to recovery and threw in some wall st reform to boot, so it's not all bad on that front either.

slight hyperbole, but certainly letting it just fall to pieces and have it gone through the courts and, at the least, not be able to pay health care costs they promised to their employees while the government sat on the sidelines wasn't in anyone's best interests. He nailed the bailout.
