Yeah I agree with e-diddy, and I generally love a good/long film/show.

If you've sat through The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, you shouldn't be criticised for short attention span.

I didn't think that Django was too long just cause, but after what should've been the final scene at the farm, I think it dropped a peg or two.

Awesome film, but I reckon that final thirty minutes was pretty "meh".

They're TV shows. It's different. If you think Django was long wait till you see Cloud Atlas. Not only is it too long but it doesn't make any sense either.

I thought Waltz and Leo both had shitty endings.

Waltz spent the entire movie being really calculated and cunning, then lost his mind and shot Leo, even though he was clearly going to get gunned down as a result, screwing over Django.

Leo went way too easily IMO, and Waltz' suicide just didn't make sense.

Over analysing it, though. I really thought it was a great film.

I never really thought of it like that. Thinking about it now it does seem odd but I'm still comfortable with it.

Just on the ending too I wonder how, if at all, QT would recut it if he could.

Most important part in the film is when that slave gets fed to the dogs. It's the point where you see that Django truly understands racism, having suffered it, and he knows to choose his battles. Schultz, however, embodies white guilt, and his heart bleeds for everyone. He's haunted by that and from then on just wants to get his dealings with Candie over and done with. Candie continues to offend his sensibilities while they stay in Candieland, and so the handshake thing just sets him off utterly. He knows that he's trained Django to be the quickest gun in the south, and all hero's journeys require the mentor to be struck down to let the hero flourish on their own.

The rest of the ending, while admittedly clunky, is necessary. It couldn't end with the Schultz-instigated shootout, the whole point of it is that it's effectively black vengeance, so it has to be instigated by Django. In spite of the untidiness, I think it pays off very well.
