Anyone can call for a leadership spill.

He did to end the issue once and for all. I suspect it was to end both anything going on within the ALP, as well as to get the media to shut up about it.

Yeah that's not gunna happen :)

Personally I think the former has been overstated by the media since the last challenge. And since before the last challenge, for that matter. I don't expect them to fall silent on it, even though it should really be over now. They're having far too much fun to bother focusing on things of actual importance.

I don't think it'll make any difference either way.

The election is Abbot's to lose.. which I'm 100% counting on him to do.

It would take a stuff up from Abbott of epic proportions for him to lose.

Sadly.

The Coalition's to lose - we don't vote for the Prime Minister.

Politicians and political parties of both sides are the biggest bunch of infighting factional self important w***ers to grace the face of the Earth. Self preservation is their primary concern (under the pretext of 'we are best placed to govern').

Whilst the polls are down, you can be guaranteed two things will be of focus: 1) backroom factional deals regarding future leadership and 2) crafting some sort of message that they hope the public will buy into leading into September.

Policy development and government sadly are a low priority.
