Basically have to make a presentation to some academics to show that on track and that will finish. Probably the biggest hurdle. I think the pass rate is about 70%. Once you have passed it the rate of completion for PhD is about 98%.
Nice one. A former geologist colleague of mine had a PhD and actually felt it made some people in the mining industry reluctant to employ him. He said it got to the stage where he considered leaving it off his CV and when queried about the two year gap in his history telling them he'd been in jail.
