Yeah so have mine. Which is now when that seems to have come good it shits me that this happens.

Have you only just started running? You are going to get a fair onset of DOMS when you first start up a program.

Yeah hasn't been long and I expected the DOMS but it appears to be hanging around in the calves much much longer then the rest of the body.

I had small issues for ages, found out it was all shoes. I roll out and have a very very wide foot. Not easy to find a 4e shoe for supination.

Most 4e shoes come in a support sole for In Ward roll I believe? Which they say is the more common roll.

Anyway I'm not expert other than to say the right shoe makes a world of difference, maybe he could find out which way he rolls?

Anyone got tips on how to stop my calves from being so freaking tight after any time I run? Jade?

Do we have an exercise thread on this board? Should make one.

For my one question :p
I get a baseball / hockey ball and just lie on it just above the Achilles. keep it there for as long as you can, moving it around.

any tight spots just keep it there until it releases

Most likely running style or your shoes more than anything else I'd say. Do loads of dynamic stretches when warming up before you run.

i have a question.

its assumed ..or i assume humans are all one species right? all one species maybe with different breeds.

in the animal kingdom you have many different species - and breeds of.

you may have like feline species, with breeds like lion, cheetah, house cat.. whatever.

So anyway

you get some species that have zero stamina but are very fast - like big cats. but youll never get a cat that can run all day

yet we have humans who can run 100m in 10 secs, and also humans that can run a 42km marathon.

is this weird? am i weird?

humans can even outrun a horse over a marathon

Guess there's more than reasons than just huge brains for how we become the dominant species on this rock!

You've been on BigFooty for a while yeah?

I will give this a go.

Yeah part of it is definitely running style, I've had to alter my stride slightly due to needing to protect the knee.

This is fine as a way to relieve soreness, but to help prevent soreness from occurring in the first place it's important to do dynamic stretches - in this case probably dynamic calf stretches.

I recently started "jogging" again and one thing that really has helped has been doing theraband resistance training for the hip flexors.

Idea behind this is we all have weak hip flexors since we sit most of the day.

I found it dramatically improves your stability in running (and of course that helps massively with injury prevention)

I'm happy Gach broke your foot
hahaha!

On two non-consecutive mornings last week, I woke up and stretched in bed. I cramped up in both my calves and had to spend a few minutes coaxing them back down again.

Old man calves is a very real thing!

I love getting sore calves massaged, feels both painful and really nice.
Actually massaging any sore muscle feels great.
I've always thought the best thing about being a footballer is all the free massages.

Did you have old school trainers? Ours used to delight in inflicting maximum pain, I'm pretty sure their deep tissue massage was in fact an attempt to massags the bone. Heaven forbid you had a corkie!

Funny that you always felt good afterwards but many a man in the strapping room was seen to be clenching the table legs with white knuckles and a grimace that Chrid Judd would've been jealous of while getting their rub down.

I only had a few massages in the old playing days, and can't remember them being too painful.
I think the sting and smell of the deep heat hurt more!

funny, one year we had 4 trainers, three univeristy student girls who were very nice, and one crusty old man named snappy who was dwarfised with busted capillaries all over his face - nice guy tho

obviously id always time my run to get to the bench for one of the three... never happened - snappy every time, ripping apart every fibre of my being with his linament soaked claws. I couldnt bare to look sideways to see the fun other other boys were getting during their supple carresses.
