Also I've never been a career person ( which I have no regrets for) it makes looking for work not ideal but I've always been of the mindset that I work to support my life, not live to build a career and live life with what's left.

I find people who are fighting to climb a cotporate ladder are people who are looking for validation and maybe dont know who they are or are maybe unhappy with what they see (massive generalisations I know)

Ive never been fired from a role, always give 100% out of personal pride but the minute the clock ticks I'm out and my mind is on what matters.

Ive been called a flake but I don't take it personally.

We are very much kindred spirits.

I must say I worked for one company for 10 years in Melbourne and had 5 different jobs and only one of those I had to apply for. I was very fortunate in that respect. In fact the day I left I was offered a job within their Logistics division. Sorry Jade, but I passed.

Upon moving to Ballarat where the average wage was far lower than in Melbourne, I was still able to find a number of jobs I could do due to a large skillset learned within that original company I worked for. In fact in the 10 years I've been here I've had 5 jobs. Sacked from none. Not moved on nor asked to leave before anyone asks. I simply didn't enjoy them enough to want to do them forever. I am now in a role and at my happiest I've ever been workwise. Salary is still no where near Melbourne levels but it doesn't matter.

I will say age has played a factor in my thinking so you're not alone there. It's not like I'm 28 anymore, damn it.
We're thinking moving to the country is where it's at too.. preferably running our own business where we can't be made redundant and can work on our own terms. Unfortunately when the economy is in the toilet, everything is in the toilet so even moving becomes difficult.

But maybe we're just being too picky. There's loads of jobs out there after all. Just need to take one that you're not interested in for less pay than you need. Simple!
Really?...

That's not what I said at all. In fact I explicitly said to apply for jobs you're interested in and might be good at. My only point was to actually put yourself out there as Mercurial89 has posted in the past about his trepidation in doing exactly that and all I wanted to do was give my advice to go ahead and apply - go for interviews and give it a crack...

I never said you said that. Post was in no way directed at you.

Post was directed at me. Im choosing to ignore it as im not going to get in a Shitfight with someone with an opposing view.

Certainly seems to be the policy around here at the moment......

I was going to say the same thing but didn't want to push my luck!

Also why do I have to read news.com.au stories about kids with cancer who die leaving behind heartbroken parents and siblings and leave me crying at work...
I was was going to post this in the What Shits Ya thread but this stuff doesn't do that. It just makes me grateful for having healthy kids.

How's this?

So last night was bin night and I put some of my rubbish into my next door neighbour's bin as out was overflowing. Neighbour from across the road (60 odd) is putting his bins out at the same time and had a go at me for it, saying I should've asked my direct neighbours beforehand and that he'll be letting them know.
Told old mate everything was ok and they're allowed to use my bins to do the same, but he continued to get really fired up saying that it wasn't right and it's a lack of respect that I didn't ask them. When I could get a word in I told him to not worry about it and just walked off on him which made him plenty angry as he was mid ramble. He then actually took my rubbish out of their bin and dumped it on my lawn (still in the bags). I picked them up and placed them in our driveway as he carried on.

Firstly, I have never met the guy across the road before but have seen him before and given the odd wave (our road is quite wide so no real chance of meeting those across). Secondly I have a brilliant relationship with the neighbours on each side of my house. In fact the neighbour of the bins I used allowed us to use her bathroom whilst we were getting our bathroom renovated last year.

Am going over to the neighbours tonight to ask them if old mate had spoken to them. See if I can just ensure we're all good just in case. Should be interesting.

So you're saying I should've asked beforehand to ensure it was cool to do so?
Oh shit I read that wrong, sorry. Thought you put it in old guys bin who you'd never spoken to. Yeah meh, if you know the neighbour and have a good relationship with em I don't see the issue.

He sounds like an ass. I suggest dumping rubbish on his front lawn.

Well I had a chat with my neighbour last night and she was all cool with me putting rubbish in her bins just like I thought. She told the bloke across the road had come over the night before and told her I was throwing her stuff out on the nature strip so he threw mine on the nature strip. I'm not what part of that made sense to him but he may have a screw loose.
Anyway she told him that she welcomes my rubbish and that she knows she can put hers in mine whenever she needs. It's our agreement and it's no one else's business. Apparently he's okay with that now. Old dickhead.
