Damn it. Managed to watch several Jeopardy episodes over the years (not as much as I liked).

Alex Trebek always seemed like a warm, witty and generous host. Rest in Peace Sir.

I don't know what I can do. I wish that I could reach out to someone who could give me some advice as to what her options are.

I have officially lost complete faith in our justice system.

You have multiple clear domestic violence breaches against someone who works her ass off to better our society every day (she really does, she has positively impacted almost countless lives), perpetrated by somebody with clear and significant mental health issues who already has a domestic violence order against him.

He has perpetrated every non-physically violent form of domestic violence against her and their son (she has 100% care responsibility). These are significant breaches where every advocacy service in the country will tell you that is continually escalating to new and increased levels. Many of the important ones already have and she has taken and followed their advice. The cycle of abuse continues but nothing changes.

The police refuse to charge him despite insurmountable evidence as well as the advice of those advocacy services.

If the victim was a family member they would be raking this guy over the coals.

Enough is enough.

Note:

I understand that my own mental health has been poor, at times. Whenever a loved one has identified it - if I have not done so myself beforehand - I have always sought professional help and have done everything in my power to change my own behaviors. I believe that mental health is a stigma but that doesn't give anyone the right to be abusive or to negatively/significantly impact the lives of others especially children because of it.

It's cases like that which make me almost wish we had the power to take the law into our own hands, dish out out own form of vigilante justice.

I wish I could offer you better advice friend, but all i can say is try to continue to be the best and most supportive friend to this person and her son, if worse comes to worse, try and get her and her child to a battered Women's Shelter or another place where that lowlife piece of shit cannot find them..

I imagine it is tempting to give in to that primal urge to go around with a few of your mates and dish out some long overdue justice to this idiot, but unfortunately is not the smartest idea in our country and its laws.

I would keep trying to contact the Police and filing complaints if this shocking behaviour continues, it might be a long shot but we have to believe one of our fine officers in Blue and our courts will eventually see the light, and lock this sick, selfish bastard away.

Just keep fighting the good fight and be as strong and positive a friend and support network to her and her son.

You seem like a decent and honourable person Wick, i reallh hope there is a good/positive outcome to this very sad case.

I can’t believe the afl had allowed him to continue playing. It’s ridiculous!

Devils advocate here, what if he is innocent? Our whole legal structure is based around the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and rightfully so. Anecdotally, I have two people I know involved in similar incidents; one was a false accuser of someone (IMO she should have faced consequences) and the other was falsely accused. It does happen. Unfortunately there are many more cases where the accusations are true and these individuals should be punished to the full extent of the law.

I don't think the media and sporting organisations, or anyone outside of the legal system at all, should be arbiters of what is right and wrong in cases like these. I think the NRL mandatory stand down policy is a farce and "look at me, I have my morals in the right place" people should leave it to the structures we have in place. Let justice run its course and what will be will be.

He pleaded guilty

He pleaded guilty

Source?

My understanding is that he has been charged by police and is awaiting a court hearing, no plea has yet been entered. Are you sure you're not confusing public opinion of guilt with an actual guilty plea? The alleged victim is actually on record saying that she did not wish to pursue charges against JDG.

I think De Goey is a huge dickhead, but he is innocent until he is proven otherwise and should be allowed to continue with his life in the interim.

Pled guilty in September. December is his sentencing.

False accusations of rape are about as rare as men doing time for rape. Something around 1%. But yeah that's where the focus should be.

Even with innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz, I'd be mighty f****** pissed off if our club was even considering looking at someone like JDG, let alone Taylor.

3 hours ago the CFC Instagram posted a story, referencing their Carlton Respects Instagram account, posting about the '16 days of activism against unacceptable behavior against women'.

I'm certain we'd never consider a JDG, a Taylor or anyone like that. It goes against everything the club is standing for.

...now can someone go and remove that piece of s*** Stevens' name from that locker? (I'm assuming it's still there...)

That is Taylor, we are speaking on De Goey and players under investigation / being charged more broadly.
No we wer
You've quoted me speaking about De Goey but have linked an article about Taylor...
the thread of the convo began with a discussion about taylor.

Reckon you've quoted the wrong person or are confused... I was responding to a poster who claimed it was ridiculous that JDG was allowed to continue playing this season whilst under investigation / charges and referenced De Goey several times.

I agree that neither are of the character you'd want at your footy club, that is whether or not JDG is guilty or not. I was vocal on the D&T board when Carlton-De Goey rumours were circulating that we should stay very far away. We have done a power of work as a footy club to steer away from /clear out dickheads and educate our employees on acceptable societal standards and behaviours. Recruiting Jordan, who I've had multiple dealings with, would be a poor move for us as he is a huge dickhead and of poor character IMO.

My main point was that players and people in general should be allowed the presumption of innocence and not have suspicions / accusations ruin their life and livelihoods before they have been afforded proper due process. Trial by media / public opinion and cancel culture is a path I wish we were not on and hence I think Jordan is perfectly fine to continue playing until a legal outcome is reached, one way or the other.

You are not being the devils advocate at all, what you are suggesting is exactly as it should be. False accusations are sometimes made, police due to false information, poor training, stupidity, arrogance, corruption and a host of other reasons sometimes lay charges they shouldn't. Let the legal system do its job then do what is necessary as a result of that.

Surely JDG or any other man doesn't need to be convicted of rape, to determine if he has treated a woman poorly

Any form of abuse/disrespect is unacceptable

Agree with the latter half of your post but not the first line.

Firstly, it's really important to get the language right and Jordan has not been accused of rape, so that probably needs to be cleared up. He has been charged with indecent assault. Secondly, there has been no ruling or outcome as of yet, so how would one judge that De Goey has treated anyone poorly? Let him have his day in court and justice to be served and then feel free to judge and comment. Anything else is just speculation at this point.
