Humanities degrees to double in cost as Government funnels students into 'job-relevant' uni courses

The cost of studying humanities at university is set to more than double next year, while the Federal Government will slash fees for priority courses with "job opportunities" amid the coronavirus recession.

Where do I start?

Decisions driven by ideology and loathing should not determine policy.

How about we charge everyone the same amount? Sounds fair to me.

Or even better.

How about we just forget about charging fees at all? Then the money saved could be put towards buying a home. You just need the balls to strip advantages from people who already live excessively comfortable lives.

And why are we picking on humanities students like they’re lepers. I’ve never got the joke. We should be encouraging everyone to pursue an education that suits their needs. A lot of those fabulous teachers out there study humanities before gaining the qualification to become educators.

Under this system I would have paid $45,000 for my degree. Thank god for Gough.

It's a sound logic...why wouldn't you direct the future workforce (as far as practicable noting some won't have the aptitude for particular vocations) towards fields where there is likely to be greater demand?

I’ll tell you why. It’s not the Government‘s job.

The Government today used its ideology to attack tertiary education and the right of an individual’s freedom to choose their own education and career path.

There’s a phrase for this.

Make no mistake this is a dangerous government which is now seeking to exploit the post-pandemic period to achieve its vision for the future.

Yeah but it's not....one man's social engineering is another man's common sense, it's just how you frame it.

The logic doesn't apply to that definition....it's not trying to shape for any malevolent reason, it's trying to project and meet future demand.

Plenty of white guy monuments with a worse record than George.

And I know who the piece of shit is in this scenario.

I feel sorry for Sam. He is a truly pathetic human being. He doesn’t care anyway.

I’m surprised that he never had a long and successful career on morning radio. Seems well qualified and as long as he kept himself to the occasional unforgivable rant most people wouldn’t care.

I’m kicking back today and enjoying Sunday like I haven’t for a long time.

Yesterday was full on. Emptying out the lock up with the family (the second living space in the rental is filled to the brim now). Then we sat down and watched the footy. For two hours the pain I was feeling physically was forgotten.

Today I’ve been listening to David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson and musing about life. I’ve looked at The Age, the crosswords and I’ll water my plants later. I’m basking in the glory of victory. Go Blues.

I'm sure you knew I was winding you up anyway. I love the arts, I think doubling the fees is a bonehead play. I don't mind the strategy of incentivising courses where you expect there to be most demand. I don't see it as social engineering but common sense. The execution seems off
