Oh, that's unfortunate. Very unfortunate.

Ok, I've got three names I can tender as 'unfortunate' or just plain wrong.

1. Modern Dickensian wretch (about 4 to 5 YO) running after his mum who was pushing a slab of Woodstock and Cole in the Pram. "Get you arse on this train, Taipan," she yelled. Yep, Taipan. Now that's bad.

2. Muso mate of mine who was drinking quietly at the Standard (as is his want) observed a couple proudly showing off their newborn baby. His name: Voltaire. Now, that's bad in a seriously pretentious way.

3. Friends have some friends who had twins recently. The twin boys spent weeks being nameless, then emerged with the unfortunate names Thor and Typo. Yes, if Thor isn't bad enough, they reiterated what a catastrophe the whole naming thing was by naming the kid after a mistake.

Biblical bad that one.

Yes, I have to agree that calling a child Voltaire is asking for serious trouble (for both the child & parents).

My wife was in a local op shop two weeks ago & noticed similar Dickensian style red headed urchin. She noticed him even more when his mother called out "Merlin, get back here!"

Though you've got me with the name Typo. I can't even imagine being even partially off my head enough to even contemplate saddling a child with that moniker.

What are these people thinking?

Typo is very bad. Parents should be slapped very hard every birthday the kid has.

In South Africa I met a few men called Caesar (proudly named after the surgical procedure that brought them into this world. It's not uncommon.

I've also heard that there are people named 'No Caesar' after being born naturally.

I kid you not.

What about the NRL match-fixing rumour doing the rounds!!! Alleged that 6 players and 1 manager will be given life bans - some big names being bandied around too. Hunt and Folau would be pretty happy with their moves if true.

Pleasure.

You must be happy about Brendon Bolton's appointment, Big X.

Awesome. On someone else that is.

Where is Noosa these days anyway? And Stard too?

Thought I'd add another into the stupid name file.

On page 117 of the "Sunday" supplement of Adelaide's Sunday Mail there is a photo of four people attending the headline act of the OzAsia Festival that is on at the moment. Third from the left is one

Triton Tunis-Mitchell

Now isn't that just pretention on a (double-barrelled hyphen) stick.

Is that a Galaxy? I once had a Samsung phone.... don't get me started.... it's a freakin' North Korean front to bring down the free world's communication channels.

On a serious note, I watched the ongoing rescue of the Chilean miners at work today. Just extraordinary. I found it quite moving. It's such an epic thing from all involved. The guy who led them while trapped sounds amazing.

Absolutely. It's been riveting, emotional stuff & not without moments of humour & opportunism, like the Bolivian President turning up to "claim" one of the miners as his own, or the miner whose wife & mistress refused to be at the top of the shaft after finding out about each other. He still got a hug from his girlfriend though!

Amazing scenes, especially the first miner, where his son started crying when his dad emerged, emotional stuff and the second miner where he gave presents to the president and the rescue team, each guy will respond differently, i suppose the next few weeks and months will be important on how they handle this ordeal. Also the family members, what they had to endure and the thought of losing a loved one..........................

They came face to face with death, and they have emerged victorious.

Took a tram ride this morning - No 75 route tram 2059 Vermont to City .

Noticed the adv'ts for the Hawks.

Great publicity for HFC - well done.

We're about to have our very own board competition to come up with an alternate 2011 membership slogan. Great prize for the winner. Stand by.
