I know he's a bit of a loose unit!
But it's got me befuddled how the hell Maxwell can't get a look in
With this shite batting lineup!
I dunno, I reckon Mitch Marsh is a pretty good batsman for a fast bowler, at least 10% better than Glen McGrath was.
Spot on, MM. First, he's a Victorian, so that counts against him. If he was a New South Welshman he'd be captain! He's obviously out of favour with the "in" crowd. Further proof of the cronyism in Australian cricket.
* What do they give you when you make your debut for NSW?
A baggy green.

Yes he is a handy batsman but he is batting to high for his ability as shown by his repeated failures . Unfortunately his bowling is just average at best . He really should be coming in about number 9 . I think Cummins shows more ability with the bat to be honest.
Go Saints
I used to love watching Jimmy Higgs bat.
Made McGrath look like David Gower.
Been back in Australia for a week now. Sydney specifically. Good to be here. My observations for anyone who cares:
What a bloody joke that white Anglo Saxon s settled here, we should have sold it to the Portuguese or something. Skin cancer ads towering over a nation of shiny pinkish people, sweating and getting ticked off with each other. Still I love it here!
We came here straight from a week in Hanoi and the attitude towards kids couldn't have been starker. My little sons are out of control savages at times but in Vietnam they were just smiled at and indulged no matter what. Contrast to our first night in the present day sanitised Kings Cross where an old campaigner aggressively complained to me about our kids making too much noise in a kids playground.
Marketing here seems to be so vulgar now. Anti littering ad: "Don't be a tosser", local pub advertising "Buck off" on its exterior just two of many examples. Yes, ha ha but a bit condescending to imagine Australian public need to be titillated in such an adolescent way.
Only evidence I've seen of AFL barr Buddy Franklin on Gatorade bottles is a legend walking around with his lady friend at SeaLife at Darling Harbour in his brand new looking saints replica top - must be an omen! Nearly shouted out Go Saints but too busy trying to keep the kids away from the water's edge.
Happy new year everyone!
On the 1975 Ashes tour of England Jimmy did not score a run, even though he only batted twice due to declarations. He could not be called a bunny, more like a ferret who comes in after the bunnies.I used to love watching Jimmy Higgs bat.

It would be interesting to have a "bat off" to see who was the worst batsman in the history of the game. I nominate Jim Higgs versus Bhagwat Chandrasekar, the Indian leggie from the '70s. Chandra did have an excuse in that his right arm was withered from childhood polio. He was the only cricketer I can think of who bowled right hand and threw left handed because of his disability. Took 12 wickets at the MCG in the 77-78 series. On the 1975 Ashes tour of England Jimmy did not score a run, even though he only batted twice due to declarations. Imagine having a super over at the end of a tied T20 with those 2 at the crease! I played cricket with a bloke who batted in 8 innings for 7 ducks and a 0 not out for absolutely no runs in a season. He was a brilliant footballer, but cricket wasn't his forte. It would be interesting to have a "bat off" to see who was the worst batsman in the history of the game. I've yet to hear any commentator make a call on what happens when Smith, Warner and Bancroft become available again. All that time to talk about things yet no one seems prepared to make a call one way or another.Basically we have two decent batsmen and both are suspended. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of talent coming in behind these guys. A few have one game here or there but can't really sustain any form.

Do you remember the test when we had Pakistan on toast and the Safraz "Mr Ball Tamperer" Nawaz pulled 9 for out of his arse?It would be interesting to have a "bat off" to see who was the worst batsman in the history of the game. Bancroft should be available as of today since that's when his suspension finishes. Smith I'd make wait for another 6 months minimum (Hello Captain - responsibility anyone?) and Warner can wait another year based on the fact he seems to have been the instigator.
So to the Sydney test team - Bancroft to replace Finch as opener. He averages 30+ as an opener and scored 77 & 26 in his last test and seems to understand that leaving a wide ball outside off stump isn't really a bad thing.
Finch to replace Shaun Marsh and Fawad Ahmed to replace Mitch Marsh
Only problem with that is that CA has said the Sydney team will come from the 13 already named. So that can't happen.
So that raises the question - why would CA lock in a team for two tests in AUSTRALIA?
The reason- well I'd guess they realised that Bancroft would become available between the two tests and they wanted to avoid making a decision about whether to select him or not for another month until the Sri Lanka tests later in January.
Lots are saying that they can't let Warner back in after Bancroft hung him out to dry. Smith will never captain again but he'll walk straight back in. Warner has never really been accepted by the cricket establishment it seems, he's a bit bogan for them. I think they had to select Warner because he scores runs but given an excuse they would be happy to not have him in the test team.
The whole of cricket Australia needs a broom through it. Selectors should be first out the door then who ever as been responsible for future planning, talent identification etc. I agree on the why they locked who was selected for two tests.
Yes, Warner seems to be very unpopular, but this is not about a popularity contest. ( The team didn’t appear to mind too much when he was the chief sledger.) If they prove they are good enough, they must be selected.
Not how it works in a team game. You have to select the 11 who can get the best results as a team, not the 11 who have the best individual attributes.
Yep both Bancroft and Smith have been getting some poor advise - admit you did the wrong thing, then stfu and do your time.I don’t think you can take two back into the fold and leave out Warner.

If they prove they are good enough, they must be selected. I personally feel that Bancroft did not do himself any favours with his press conference. He initially accepted responsibility for his part in it, has served hos ban...why come out now and blame someone else? He is not a child, he absolutely must know that what he did was wrong and not palm off the blame, even if Warner was the mastermind.
Smith, by knowing yet doing nothing, is as culpable as Warner. But they’ve done the crime and the time. If they are good enough, they need to be picked. I would, however, be getting someone in do some restorative practice with the team, otherwise it is going to be difficult to have them all together in the dressing rooms.

They used bottle tops back then if memory serves me right.

Up until a few days ago Bancroft would have been a definite chance for the Sri Lanka games given the problems with the openers position now I'm not so sure. Will be interesting if he gets some runs in the BBL.
Next tests after that are the Ashes in July - you'd have to think Smith is an automatic in even though he would have no first class cricket since march 2018, Bancroft will have played a few games with WA so his form will be the issue.
Warner - just don't think he will get a look in which is ironic since he seems to be the one has just shut his mouth and accepted the situation.
Just saw that they have named Marnus Labuschagne in the Sydney squad - perfect replacement for who exactly? It can only be Labuschagne in - Mitch Marsh out.
So despite the problems being in the top of the batting order, you replace an unspectacular all-rounder with another unspectacular all rounder and think the jobs done.
And you thought there were selection issues with the Saints last year!!!
Perfect choice if you need a "spectacular" unspectacular all rounder.Glenn Maxwell?
In defence of Aust.. you did go to the worst Suburb in the worst City in the worst State in the best Country. Apologies if you have friends &/or family there...Been back in Australia for a week now. Sydney specifically. Good to be here. My observations for anyone who cares:
