NSW had a bigger BLM protest than we did... and at the time infections in both cities were very similar (single figures).

The irony of that is so many calling Andrews a Dictator in one breath and raging about why he didn't stop a democratic protest in the other. You keep mentioning that the virus didn't break out in other states yet they had BLM protests as well. How does that work? The poor attitude wasn't through all areas of society at all. The Geonomic tracing found it went through specific family groups that are linked back to guards and a hotel manager. It was virtually a perfect storm;

Outsourcing to security because the cops didn't want to waste time babysitting
Rogue security firms sub-contracting to dodgy firms
Firms ignoring health protocols resulting in poorly or untrained guards
A group of guards sacked for propositioning female hotel staff
A handful of positive guards attending large gatherings to celebrate the end of Ramadan
Newly infected people spreading it further through old age facilities, schools, commission flats, meat works and other work places
People unable to stop working because they were casuals (no sick leave, no job keeper)

And you're seriously going to say it was because of a protest that this all happened? C'mon Plugs, it just doesn't add up.
Again another not reading what I actually said. The blm protests did not spread the virus. The difference was we had a harder lockdown than most other states yet Andrews was the most forgiving about the protest initially. To me that sent a poor attitude to the community as he had be so hard on other things at the same time. Some People basically then said stuff this they are allowed to protest but can’t visit family and friends and at the same time quarantine was stuffed up and it ended up the debacle we have now All these excuses but why was it only our state that it happened to? What doesn’t add up is people refusing to accept the government stuffed up or is it just that victorians are worse people than people from nsw. It’s actually very simple. There was no second wave without the quarantine stuff up. As I said earlier if 300 people get together and no one has COVID it doesn’t spread. If one silly untrained security guard gets COVID it can spread to one person then then four etc. that’s how it happened.

Fair enough. What should or could he have done better to stop it from coming back? It seriously is a little bit of bad luck on top of some poor management strategy. NSW has had second waves but they were able to get onto it a lot quicker and part of that is after what happened here people weren't as complacent in other states. Here people were dickheads until it flared up and people realised it wasn't a hoax or some abstract concept from overseas.

The virus is likely to come back again until we find a vaccine and it won't really matter who's in charge if we don't do the right thing. The NSW ship thing was actually a lot more direct government fu** up because they let people walk off the ship sick and didn't even think to quarantine them. Victoria's fu** up is allowing private enterprise to do jobs. Sounds like the government didn't think people wouldn't do a job they were paid to do properly. That's a lot harder to control than the border force fu** up.
So strangely Victoria have more stupid people than Nsw or again is it another fault that Nsw had a better tracing department which seems to be the case. Not sure 20 people getting it is a second wave. More likely it could have been a second wave.

Great read from Marina Hyde

"Arguably the real victims here are the president’s MAGA disciples, who are devoted to him but also don’t believe the virus even exists. Trump being officially diagnosed with it, is category 5 cognitive dissonance – a logical contradiction so intense it could crash their circuitry, causing them to immediately lay down their assault rifles and open a chain of abortion clinics."

Sanders should have been the man, but wall street was never going to gel with him and same with the upper class limo liberals there.

Can see AOC being groomed to be president by the Dem establishment though.

Sanders should have taken 2016 but the Dems thought the 'first female president' movement would romp them home.

Yang is the guy I like for the US. Hoping he can hang around long enough to get a real crack at it in (probably) 8 years.

Won't make a single bit of difference. If Trump avoids the worst effects of the virus and is back to normal in 7 days time - his supporters will cling to the idea that a 70something male in peak physical fitness easily beat the China virus. If Trump gets hideously sick or dies, they'll claim he was poisoned or given another disease by the deep state in order to push the coronavirus lie.

No matter what happens, their opinion on the virus and on Trump won't change one bit.

I stated pretty clearly why the virus got out in Victoria & not elsewhere.

And the program worked in 14 of 16 hotels. So was that a govt stuff up or just individuals doing the wrong thing?

Also aged care still took the brunt of it which is federal, they were still not providing training and PPE right in in the middle of the crisis. The media never make the link. Lots of people worked in multiple roles across several homes etc. It's a very insecure industry so people were taking it to other businesses because they were working multiple low paid jobs.

The aged care thing was in private homes - the government ones all ha dplenty of ppe.
Source: wife, sister in law x3 and 2 mates are nurses in public aged care facilities

The media have certainly made the link but like everyone with bias we choose to only think they are writing up only on the party some barrack for. Strange that all the other states haven’t lost even 5% of what we have lost in aged care. Wonder why?

Private aged care is regulated by the federal government. Government aged care is run and regulated by the state government.

A Bernie/Yang ticket would have been the best possible course for the US

Botched quarantine caused second wave. Dickheads are dragging it out.

Private are the vast majority, and most of them didn't get Covid. The deaths we saw were the tip of the iceberg.

I watched Secrets of Silicone Valley on ABC yesterday, it was saying that politicians aren't keeping an eye on the future and showed a lot of the damage that "disruptive" industries are doing to society. One guy had run off to hide in the bush with his semi automatic weapons to stave of the apocalypse brought about by an automated USA. Even the optimists say we had better look at bringing in a universal basic income because the world is heading for an economic cliff where there are super wealthy on the west coast of the US and disenfranchised people with nothing.

Ahh lets get ready for another LNP budget.

Wonder what to expect - I'm thinking tax cuts for the wealthy which will further consolidate their wealth and further decrease the ongoing revenue to Govt.

Think about this: despite a rocketing budget deficit, Scott Morrison is planning to press on with, and even bring forward, highly expensive tax cuts for high income-earners at just the time we're realising that the 40-year pursuit of Smaller Government has been a disastrous failure.

Yeah, that's literally just sucking up to your base for future votes because any economist will tell you that the worst thing to do for the economy is hand out tax cuts to the wealthy. At my son's soccer club there is one of the dads that is a French venture capitalist who owns that company and a few others in France and Belgium. He says that Australian tax rates are so minimal that it's weird that we whinge about it so much in the media. He said company and personal tax is minimal here and more than competitive. He's no lefty either.

I loved the news report with graphs.

The words of lower to middle income earners feeding back into the economy;
The graphs of 17-23% tax break

The words of and higher income earners to consolidate and hold.
The graphs of 35-45% tax break

Arse end backwards unless you want to stifle more quicker. Yay media reporting!

I am more concerned about this budget being written on the hope that a vaccine will be found in the next 6 months and everyone in the world will have it.

Scottys grand plan is to be a happy clapping campaigner and pray he does not get ****ed in the arse

Well unless they change the rules on an average of 5 a day and only a total of 5 local transmissions we aren’t coming out of stage 3 on the 19th. Be interesting what they do as we aren’t going to hit though numbers. Pretty disappointing. I’m over it completely
