Really disappointed at this outcome: https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/p...t-will-call-optus-stadium-home-ng-b881092834z
I was so proud to be a saints supporter that day, now the whole thing gets commemorated in Perth ffs.
Nicky made the stand not for the St Kilda football club but for himself and his brothers who for generations copped abuse based purely because of their skin colour … the fact Nicky is a proud Noongar man and the fact optus stadium is built on Noongar land to me makes it a fitting spot for it …
Nicky is a hero for the Noongar people and it stands to reason that culturally he be celebrated on Noongar land

This is a ridiculous outcome. The statue is meant to commemerate an act made by a St. Kilda player, representing St.Kilda, on a ground in Victoria. The act was a response to a notorioisly racist and poorly behaved group of supporters at a venue which was considered unsafe by opposition supporters.

As much as I'd love the statue to be located at Moorabbin, I would even concede to having it situated in the parklands surrounding Filth Park. Relevance.

Putting it up outside Optus/Perth Stadium is the equivalent of erecting a monument to the Kokoda Track fighters in Federation Square. Nice thought, but slightly incongruent.

In any event, there's no shortage of aboriginal people in WA who could be honoured with a statue commemorating their achievements in fighting racism.

see im not sold on that … the native people of northern Norway and the peoples that have lived for generations above the artic circle seem to not have any real issue with cancer wiping them out .. that said for the most part their diet is eating meat that has a high fat content and often eating it raw … from my travels up there its the introduction of soft drink that is the biggest worry for them

I read once about a sedentary life style contributing to the slower digestion and therefore staying in the digestive tract for longer periods is bad and coupled with excessive salt which is acidic makes for a worse combination. Perhaps the fats shield from the acidic properties and salt is in shorter supply?

I always thought it was over cooking of meat that produces carcinogens.

I think that's right, more come out during excessive cooking but one/ some remains in the meat residually as well.

I was hoping you wouldn't bring up those rather excellent points, St. Trav, because in doing so, you have caused my argument to collapse completely. Well played, Chumley Bumley!

look in all honesty I do think Nicky is deserving of a statue in Victoria as well … ive been following this back and forth for the statue for some time now with many Perth people up in arms about this for a number of reasons the major one being the discussion that the Stadium would not just be football centric and that they were initially not going to have any football statues at the site , other arguments from WCE supporters and Freo supporters around why a St Kilda player would get a statue at the home of their footy teams … but the thing about this moment in time that Nicky stood for is bigger than the club colours its bigger then the sports code it was a mirror to everyone on what was being accepted as ok behavior in Australia at that time and how utterly unacceptable it actually was … from all the people against the statue in Perth from the social media posts im yet to see a single Noongar person say it shouldn't be there but plenty of opposition for this is coming from people who ummm lets say seem happy to drape the aussie flag over their shoulders ;)

You only have to look to Mexico, which has one of the highest consumption of soft drinks in the world.
Mothers routinely feed their babies soft drinks in baby bottles and it is having disastrous effects. Childhood diabetes and obesity is rampant.
And tooth decay is out of control with young children routinely requiring teeth extractions. They have introduced a soda tax and it is having some effect.

On red meat, all the studies I have seen indicate that barbecued meat consumed in excess may be carcinogenic. Most studies however involve participants filling in questionnaires, and diets and environmental factors vary widely, so the results cannot be taken as conclusive proof.
IMO, if human beings are omnivores, and not one gram of carbohydrate is required to sustain life, it would suggest to me that fat and protein should be the mainstay of our diets. Red meat is a great source of fat and protein. I remember seeing a documentary on a guy called Derek Nance, who ate nothing but raw red meat -a bit too radical if you ask me, but his blood profiles were very good and he suffered no nutrition deficiencies. He even ate rotting meat to get the probiotics and enzymes he required. FMD that's dedication

On salt, most of the salt in our diets comes from processed foods. Once again, most published studies involve participants filling in questionnaires, and diets and environmental factors vary widely, so is it the processed foods that are bad for you, or the salt, or a combination of both.

Salt contributes to hardened arteries, and that contributes to higher blood pressure.
If you don't have high blood pressure it probably doesn't matter so much.
I think Vegetables are probably doing far more for you than carbs.
So a bit of meat and salad seems to be the consensus.
( That's not to say that KFC with Coleslaw is great, but still better if you hold the chips ).

I dunno about that but the people in the far north certainly do eat very different to the people of the south even to the cut of meat that they go to first … for us we are all about the flesh of the animal going for the leg or shoulder of the beast .. for them its all the internals that they want first and foremost... its seen as a great honor to be given the right to eat the tongue of the reindeer

yes the thing with Mexico is the water quality isn't great so for some areas its preferred to drink the soda …
the thing with baby bottles I remember taking my father in law to Kardinia Park to watch Geelong play one year and seeing a mother of three pour coke into the baby bottle of a kid that didn't even have teeth yet … you can just tell that kid was destined for a life of dental issues

I would be more worried about the food poisoning from the KFC coleslaw honestly …
as a good rule if its cooked hot in front of you the chances are its not going to give you food poisoning :)

Wow the new AFL Fantasy prices are all over the shop.

Some i've found:
Roberton more expensive than Carlisle. Logan Austin in between them. ( all more than James Frawley).
Bailey Rice a similar price to Daniel McKenzie
Ed Phillips costs as much as Jack Newnes.
Minchington only slightly lower than than Birchall.

Pretty much rules out any young players who have gotten a couple of games last year.

The whole trick to winning it will be guessing which players who have never played before will get games.
Or taking a punt that someone like Birchall or Hannebury will come back and play good footy.

Its sad when Coke is cheaper than bottled water , both of which cost more than Petrol.

I think you are unnecessarily smearing KFC there St Trav.
I'd expect a big corporation like that to be more militant to the food safety regs than a family owned restaurant.
McDonald's are credited with being one of the highest quality providers of food anywhere.
Measure of quality being , you get what you paid for ,the way its intended to be without fault. ( not overall satisfaction with the meal ).

the problem with stores like KFC is most of them are franchised … and the high franchise fees force the owners to often push the envelope in regards to food standards , I know for franchises like Nandos this is especially the case for items that are purchased in bulk and are potentially to be written off, I have a friend who works in food standard inspecting and they say that often the worst things they have found are the prepackaged items as the food is handed over without ever being checked so an out of date rancid coleslaw is more likely to get past the keeper than a out of date rancid piece of meat that is being prepared and packaged …

Carlisle is surprisingly low in FA scores so not a big mystery. Logan Austin threw up huge numbers so got big scores. I think they use a pretty basic formula. Ed Phillips again got a big possession count so go for FA numbers not player quality. Guys with less games but good games get swelled but often don't get many games.

If it was happening it'd make the news.

The sun is probably contributing to more cancer in Australia than a chunk of meat, although bowel cancer is right up there with melanoma.

I knew a bloke who didn't let anything pass his lips unless he knew where it was derived from, it had to be as pure as snow. He was a vegan, and did everything in his power to eat nothing but the purest foods no meat no sugar etc etc, he died of bowel cancer age 38.

Yeah, I think you need to enjoy yourself sometimes or there is no point. A balance is probably better for you than the stressing about it all.

On the sun, now they are saying sunscreen is killing all the reefs in the world. Hawaii is banning sunscreens with certain chemicals to save their tourism. You literally can't fix something without ****ing something these days.
