Melbourne drivers are terrible. When you go to Europe and drive, people move back into the right lane (our left lane) as soon as they overtake. The trucks go about 100kpm and don't try to speed and stay out of their lane. It's so much better to drive there.

Don’t know Italians take beating over there.

In Rome the traffic is chaos but other cities are much more courteous. The Autostrada is incredibly well behaved like the Germans.

My Italian driver might disagree was cut off and upon honking horn in displeasure was confronted by the
Idiot opening his driver door standing erect holding one hand on steering wheel and shaking his fist with
other jumped back in car seat all while doing over 100.

Naples , Calabria ..drive like maniacs up one streets the wrong way all the time .

On this one I'm right. Alfreds is to burgers what ciccerellos is to fish and chips.

Dead give away is when you have the tourists rocking up in high numbers.

Anyone who's been there in the previous century will know how much both have changed.

Mass produced, mass profit on a name that was built long ago.

It's a pitty but that's life. When things get that popular they can't possibly put the same time into producing it.

I wasn't around for it but apparently bennys was awesome too

Apparently there's a small burger shop in Bayswater that goes alright
If you like greasy and very small serves Ciccerellos is for you. Sweet Lips is King down in that area.
Sweet Lips is King in Leederville too. Any thoughts on the best pub meals in Perth ?
I nominate The Paddington Alehouse and The Woodbridge Hotel.

For some reason I read that as drive like mechanics. And I spent a couple of moments wondering whether that meant they would brake softly, or go easy on the clutch.

This crap again!

Went to Phil Collins last week.
Found out some friends were going as well, and my wife is all.."they are catching the train because the carpark at AAMI is full " she has a real paranoia about finding parking everywhere she goes.
Anyway the G carpark was open and from my place out East we got there and parked and were looking for Dinner in Richmond less than an hour after leaving.
Our friends had a 2 hour Journey , and I'd rather leave the car at the G than at a SE suburbs Station at night.

Yeah they're trying to improve it but its just so far from what it should be.
The one that always gets my hackles up is the "tracks buckling in hot weather". Do they think the tracks buckle everyday in India, Thailand, Malaysia? If the tracks are bloody buckling in hot weather fix the bloody things so they don't!!!.

A few years back now my wife was in Europe with my Daughter. She'd needed a car suitable for 2 adults a kid and a baby. The Astra wagon on the advert would have been fine but the little hatchbacks they actually had didn't cut it . So she was totally impressed ( not ) when she got a Fiat Doblo. I got a phonecall in the middle of the night, while she was driving down the autostrada from Venice. She was asking me for directions while wringing the guts out of the 1.3litre diesel at 130km/h and complaining everyone else was passing her. The big issue with the freeways was that they would split in two directions, and the signs would be right at the split, so if you were lucky you'd get a look at where you were going as you sailed past the sign well after you had to choose where you were. It was even more fun on the little back roads in the hills of Marche where she was staying ( think of the size of a little english country lane, but with a cliff off the side of it ), but felt better when some of the others staying in the Villa with them rocked up in the same thing. ( Seems hire cars in Italy at the time were 2 sizes ).

Her crowning achievement was , when driving wrong way up a one way road in Arezzo , and seeing a cop clearly looking at her, waving to the cop. ( lazy bastard did nothing lol ).

Hard to believe that the country that produces Lambos and Ferraris can make a car that ugly. I thought their freeways were so much better than ours, no-one blocks the express lanes up driving on the speed limit with 20 cars banked behind them. Only problem is the lane widths are much narrower than ours so it feels like your mirrors are going to clip cars on both sides.I found France the worst country in Europe to drive in, they were all over the place.

Designed in Italy but made in Turkey :D. Are their freeways better , or is it the way the drivers use them?

I was pretty diligent with my own kids, teaching them how to enter and exit freeways and merge smoothly, and keep left unless overtaking, but there's "NOTHING" in the official driving instructions or tests to do with Freeways. Its because those who set the test can't handle "IF".

"Ohhhh what if the test centre is not near a Freeway ". cry the red tape makers.
Simples you idiots, IF the test center is within "X" km from a freeway , you take them on it and see if they can speed up and merge, change lanes, and get off , all without shitting themselves at high speed.
IF its not , they don't have to.
I keep seeing people on the roads who seem to drive between 50 and 70 no-matter what the posted limits.

I finally got around to watching "Icarus" on Netflix. I thought I was watching a documentary about a cyclist who blood dopes in order to see if he could improve his performances and cheat the system. It turned into something much, much more.
Spoiler Alert for anyone that has not seen it.....

-Systematic State endorsed blood doping by the Russians,
-The Chinese supplying the Russians with the best anabolic steroids in the world
-KGB involvement in the blood doping.
-People being placed in the Witness protection program

One of the best Sport's documentaries I have seen in a while

well i still rate them .... i still reckon the quality is top notch and the better of anything else around that area back in the day working nightshift down the road from it its the only place that you can get a decent feed at 1am .. the quality may have slipped from the 90's but its still producing a product that is of a high quality 99.9% of the time it still has a hugly loyal following of locals who are there at 1am lining up for burgers so yeah its popular with tourists but its still keeping its regulars ..
the differance between Alfreds and Cicerellos is Alfreds if it has gone down hill is still better than pretty much everywhere else Cicerellos has become woeful
the bayswater one are you refering to "hood burgers"

the woody is good .... flat out refuse to go to the Paddo after they held a Pauline Hanson hate rally there a few years back ..
the best pub meals are still the pubs in the country .. back when i was working the wheatbelt stopping into pubs like Mukinbudin, Hyden, Dowerin, Pingelly etc the food while not fancy was always top notch .. in the city the pubs now days try and be high end dining but fall well short

Never had a problem with "buckling tracks"in the two years I lived and worked in India. Everything ran on time.

Admittedly you had to book first class tickets, or else you'd end up on the roof or worse, but it was cheap as chips and you could score a bikkie and cup of tea. Lift your game, Komrade Dan!

in 31 days im on an adventure to the south of India and Sri Lanka on trains ... the overnight train option seems to be the go.. have booked second class sleeper births for the trip so it certainly will be an experiance ... my family are railway people from india with my father, grandfather and great grand father all being born and raised in the railway quaters so its in my blood to use these trains..

My driver, Maninder, was the best driver i've ever seen. Made Senna look like a rank amateur.
oh yeah when i was in jaipur our driver pulled off some moves in a car i wouldnt even consider trying let alone doing it a mixture of cars, trucks, motorbikes, bicycles, food carts, goods trollys, livestock, pedestrians all going different directions around a roundabout suddenly making way for a Cow to walk its path through the chaos ... its certainly an eye opening experiance

Yep because buckling tracks are related to the condition of the sleepers and how well they are attached to the rails. Australia is not always the first world country we think it is, and sooner or later all the stuff we built in the 50's and 60's isn't going to be up to it.
( though they cleverly decided they could replace old power stations with rolling brownouts, another thing i always relate to third world countries -- India has nuclear power now ).
An indian guy ( but from London ) was telling me about the cheapo Nano car's they developed for India, he was saying the lack of safety features didn't matter because most wouldn't have the opportunity to go faster than 40km/h in places like New Dehli.
Sounded like just the trip from the airport was an epic journey.
