Yep because buckling tracks are related to the condition of the sleepers and how well they are attached to the rails. Australia is not always the first world country we think it is, and sooner or later all the stuff we built in the 50's and 60's isn't going to be up to it.
( though they cleverly decided they could replace old power stations with rolling brownouts, another thing i always relate to third world countries -- India has nuclear power now ).
An indian guy ( but from London ) was telling me about the cheapo Nano car's they developed for India, he was saying the lack of safety features didn't matter because most wouldn't have the opportunity to go faster than 40km/h in places like New Dehli.
Sounded like just the trip from the airport was an epic journey.
Arrived on New Year's Eve 2007. I'm not easily intimidated but more than once i wondered what I'd gotten myself into. The following days i thought it was just fog reducing visibility. After three days Maninder asked me why i wasn't wearing a surgical mask like him. I thought he was a wuss. He thought i was reckless. I put on a mask.

Yeah they're trying to improve it but its just so far from what it should be.
I was lucky to get through when I did. I was at Caulfield and noticed something was up when the signaller took the signal off the train. As we left I noticed the pantograph of the train pointing the wrong way and the droppers(The little bits of wire that go from the top wire to bottom) were unattached.
I was with my train driver mate and we both agreed the train service would get suspended. Presumably the overhead or the panto was damaged and bang it went.

All the work on the PKM/CBE along with the new trains are really catch up work. Even then I'm not hearing much by the way of good news on the HCMT front.

Buckling is really only an issue after it hits 38c. Rails are tensioned so that it's length matches what it would be 38c and they put it in so there's no thermal stress when they lay the track.
Well tampered concrete sleeper continuously welded track shouldn't really go anywhere. But given they're a mile behind everything we get WOLO every time it gets hot.

Going quick over that will lead to a big mess.

Designed in Italy but made in Turkey :D. Are their freeways better , or is it the way the drivers use them?

I was pretty diligent with my own kids, teaching them how to enter and exit freeways and merge smoothly, and keep left unless overtaking, but there's "NOTHING" in the official driving instructions or tests to do with Freeways. Its because those who set the test can't handle "IF".

"Ohhhh what if the test centre is not near a Freeway ". cry the red tape makers.
Simples you idiots, IF the test center is within "X" km from a freeway , you take them on it and see if they can speed up and merge, change lanes, and get off , all without shitting themselves at high speed.
IF its not , they don't have to.
I keep seeing people on the roads who seem to drive between 50 and 70 no-matter what the posted limits.
they know how to drive. you did well with your kids.

Mightymal, I am retired with little to do, yet in 12 years I have'nt cracked 3000 posts yet, while you have in nine months. Should I be saying, "Well done" , or, "Get a life"
Also Bazza in defence of my good looking self....Most of those posts are me laying down some killer tunes in the disco
for the people!
I like to think of it as a community service!

It seems as though the system really enjoys it when i do community service!

Highly doubt they do.. already at corporate war with Trump and it’ll filter down to us. Banks have us worried at present. Knocking back 40% of loans currently and rising post royal commission.
The conspiracy theorist in me says the banks will be knocking back more than necessary so to pressure Canberra into loosening the noose. If they suppress the economy enough, the government of the day will crumble to whatever demands are made.

OK...

How long before the government allow a boat or three to sneak through in order to bolster their election chances?

I'm tipping within 3 weeks.

Can someone please explain the point of Bob Katter?

He's an invention of the Working Dog Team. An endless source of amusing material. A mate of mine worked for him and lasted two years. Bob almost drank him to death. A bottle of Bundy every night for the Kattermeister.

Unfortunately my mate was expected to keep pace. He didn't even like rum when he started. He came to love it. The things we do for the sake of our jobs......did say Bob was fundamentally decent. One of the better pollies, although that's hardly a ringing endorsement.

Can someone do me a favour and pull the image from this page

I'm not on my computer at home (I'm interstate) and don't have the image with me.
Cheers!

This pic sure looks like the new leadership team to me...Billings, Ross, Gears and Hanners. Just needs some Steele.

(George I did crop it a bit.)

Thanks Di, I was more talking about the source image (without the hyperlinks infront of it).

All good though! It is a great picture :)

I particularly despise this political diversionary tactic. If we have to we could have a mature discussion about illegal immigration, airports, visas, genocide, displaced people etc. But no, let’s continue to take it out on a bunch of desperate people with kids, risking their lives on leaking boats.
Probably easier than explaining why a stack of people with a disability can’t access services under the NDIS because providers can’t afford to deliver services at the NDIS capped rates. There are none of the promised new big players because they aren’t stupid. Meanwhile existing services go broke, try and wait it out, refuse to take on anyone with anything remotely difficult or use a range of these strategies.
Pompous scammers (politicians) then proclaim how fantastic it is that all these billions are being pumped into delivering services. I estimate there is either no new money or very little new money actually being spent. They really haven’t gone past repackaging old money.
