I had no time. It was that bloody quick

My son injured himself in Sri Lanka, he needed stitches out so we waited until we were in Singapore, their hospitals are like that, you literally walk in and get seen and operated on in 10 minutes. It took longer to process the credit card.

Had some friends over for dinner on Saturday who have just moved back from Dubai after 4 years.

Some serious eye opening stories of how the Emirate is broke and built on laundered money from China, India and Russia.

Most disgusting is the how beautiful young Filipino girls ate brought over as maids, then made to have sex with their master.

If they get pregnant they are shipped off to an Iranian island off the coast of Iran.

Speaking of offal jokes

Times Roman, Helvetica and Sans Serif walk into a bar. " Get out" shouts the barman. "We don't serve your type here."

A couple of jumper leads walk into a bar. The barman warned them not to start anything.

The past, the present and the future walk into a bar. It was tense.

A dyslexic guy walks into a bra

I went into the butchers yesterday and said to the guy behind the counter “I bet you $100 that you can’t reach the meat on the top shelf over there without using a step ladder”

The butcher said, “Nah, the stakes are too high”.

People are such lazy thinkers. The whole point of the "Mental Health" angle is that the player can claim it AND it's also hidden from media view so there is no consequence to the player. If Jack had a drug issue, given the current storylines there is zero chance they would've chosen mental illness as the reason, they'd choose something boring like a calf to avoid the hysteria.

It's incredibly courageous by Jack to step forward while this other side story is going on and be willing to say he has a mental illness and needs a week or two to get away and refresh. Good luck to him and I hope he's able to reset and be back soon loving what he's doing.

As one of the people who posed the question about Stuv having strikes let me play Devil's advocate here.

My understanding is that a player under an injury cloud or medically ruled out for physical reasons (calf, broken bone, concussed etc) is still inside the reach of the AFL/ASADA testing sphere. A player who has stepped away from the game due to mental illness is not & they will be tested and re-enter that sphere upon their return to the club for training.

The theory then is that drug use is common among AFL players and that taking leave for 'mental issues' is their way of removing themselves from the testing pool in order to detox, clean up and avoid a positive return.

Very few people (inc myself) have actually accused Jack Steven of taking drugs. Let's make that clear. The timing is simply terrible given our former coach has just raised this exact scenario and was followed up by our (arguably) greatest ever player and captain saying that the drugs issue is "out of control" because the players can get away with it.

So the questions being asked are: "Does Jack Steven have any strikes against his name under the AFL illicit drug policy? Was anyone in the club aware of any testing being done in the lead up to round 1?". That there is no transparency on this speaks more about how the AFL handles the issue than Jack personally. Unfortunately as fans we are given the choice to either take it at face value and believe St Kilda/Jack Steven is beyond reproach OR ask the harder questions of the club/player when the media clearly wont.

I honestly hope for the best for Jack. Go back through some of my posts from 2013 and you'll see my mental state was dead set ****ed. It's no fun at all waking up everyday hating everything but unfortunately these questions were always going to come out as soon as a player/club utters the phrase "Mental Health" break.

THIS is why the AFL needs to act and change the policy. More transparency and making it public around drug strikes (or not allowing mental health cases to avoid drug testing) as this will be speculated in every case of a mental health issue - I’ve no doubt some clubs will have used this as a way of avoiding drug testing.

If every time a player needed time away from the game for mental health issues, their character was questioned and they could get accusations of drug taking - it makes it harder for them to seek the help they need.

This could lead to bottling it up and - worst case scenario you’ve got a mental health degradation to the point of a player trying to take his life jumping off the Bolte bridge.

I doubt that the player is exempt from ASADA reporting whilst on mental health leave.

ATO whistleblower faces six life sentences, roughly the same as Ivan Milat

https://www.smh.com.au/business/sma...y-the-same-as-ivan-milat-20190226-p510d2.html

It is an emotive headline but our laws need fundamental reform if, from a sentencing perspective, an ATO whistle blower's crime attracts a more severe punishment than a rapist or a murderer
It’s a sad reflection on politicians and lawyers (often the same people). You will find most people in our society rate crimes against the person as being far more serious than crimes against property. Our legal system doesn’t. Obviously our politicians rate crimes against taxation revenue raising as more serious than most.
The word reform is interesting in this context. Most sectors of our society went through massive ‘reforms’ over the years. Our legal and political systems were curiously overlooked..

Id stop the testing and use only ASADA testing. The best athletes in the world, well close to it, Olympic sprinters could have recreational drugs every day of the week and no one cares or knows unless its on match day. Why we our players agreed to this is beyond me. I also laugh at those who ring up radio stations and say we have it at our work and would be sacked immediately if caught. And what do they do, drive trucks or are polits or work in mines. Of course you should be sacked. Not sure a footballer is a danger to many people if he had coke on Monday and then played Saturday. The other laugh is its illegal. When was the last person ever charged with using. Doubt anyone ever has. Even on shows like RBT when they come up positive for drugs they aren't charged with using even though they obviously have. Just stop the testing.

I agree with you on this. I don't know why it's reported as football having a problem. It's not so much a 'footballers have a drug problem' as it is a 'young guys with money like taking drugs at the weekend'.

Am not sure what the AFL agenda with it is. Players are to be role models maybe? I'll be trying to parent my kids not to think that way.

I can quite honestly say though (and this is just me, everyone is different) in my 20s, when I played a good level of sport and was the fittest I had been, 1 Saturday night on the Columbian marching powder impacted my mental state for at least the next week. Physically I wasn't able to train as well (that would be the booze from the weekend also), but mentally I was shot - feared up for a few days and loss of motivation and mood severely dampened to a mild depressive like state - still chased it at the weekend though.

Again, could just be me and my biological make up not being able to handle the mental aspect of the withdrawal. But, based on my experience, if our players were taking coke or even overdoing the booze at the weekend then they aren't getting the best out of themselves physically (and probably mentally) for training and matches.

Not even sure what my point is here, because the employer paying me at that time wasn't getting the best out of me either, so it's hypocritical. I suppose I just want to see footballers as committed to getting the best out of themselves and winning because I want our club to succeed. But many may (probably) just see it as a job.

Ben Cousins did ok until it all caught up with him.

Anyone else getting these annoying ads on big footy where the web browser goes to a ‘congratulations google user on winning a prize’ screen?

Any idea how to stop it?

It’s only happening for me on bigfooty using an iPhone.

All the bloody time! It’s driving me insane!
For me also on BF but so far only on my iPad, not my iPhone.
( Was just about to post about it.)

Pleeeease make it stop!!!

I thought it was my phone. It’s a relief it’s not a bug. About 10 times a day. Worst of all I never win even though it says I have

😂
Don’t be fooled, these are real tears.
My “prize” would be that it stops happening.

I suppose the cure could be that I stop spending so much time on BF!

You mean there is a catch? I just got a phone call saying my computer is effected by a virus. I had to log the guy into my computer. Im sure that's the right thing to do.

Horrible little man. He was so far up Pell’s backside you’d think he would have the sense to stay in the murky shadows where he belongs

What about the Bolter? His impassioned defense of Pell left me flummoxed. He even stated Pell had been "wrongly convicted".

The Pell Cheer squad has been active for years. Miranda Devine, Bolter, Howard and John Silvester, to name but a few. What's in it for them, other than protecting a cornerstone of the conservative establishment?

I had the misfortune of dealing with Pell when advocating on behalf of several victims of sexual abuse. What a creature. Dismissive, arrogant, abusive and completely lacking in empathy and compassion. A stone cold psychopath.

How anyone could defend him beggars belief. At least the advertisers on the Bolt report withdrew their commercials and the attendant revenue from his program. That's the only thing that will resonate with Pell's defenders.
