Yeah, it's pretty hard to judge the value of a life just because the parents are 17 year old ice addicts. Doesn't mean the kid won't grow up to cure cancer. The kid is starting a fair way back in the race but why does someone else have the right to stop the parents? A rich person doesn't want to have kids because it takes an income out for a year and sets them up for $30,000 a year in school fees and the rest.
The baby bonus has to be one of the more cynical and irresponsible decisions made by the Howard Government. I still can’t believe that he wasn’t torn apart for that one.
Having said that, this subject is incredibly fraught. Before you know it, you can find yourself in close proximity to the sort of arguments presented by the Hitlers of this world. Einstein and Hawking are just two examples of people unlikely to make the cut of selective population control.
Much easier to keep the focus on total numbers. We are seeing dramatic falls in birth rates around the world, as medical and health services improve in poorer countries. Like many human responses to problems, it’s a double edged sword.
Always said we should let WA succeed, declare war on them, invade, take their raw materials, turn the population into slaves, dissolve WCE and Freo, and give the Saints the best 12 players.I'd start in WA![]()

Sounds plausible to me.

Remember the "breathairian" movement? It asserted you could live from just breathing. One of their devotees was found dead and decomposing in her tent in the Scottish highlands, her skeletal remains a testament to the effectiveness of the regime. That is truly amazing doc where did you find it.
I don’t know which one is scarier but I’m going with the arm thrusting glazed eye “ that’s true” one. I haven’t seen anyone as nutty as that since the woman who claimed to be living off the suns energy, then broke down in tears about the killing of lobsters.
Absolute gold.![]()

Go on. You've got me interested. It appeals to my Teutonic heritage. Tell us more of this plan of yours, Herr Joffaboy............
Not quite sure what you mean regarding Einstein and Hawking, in context with the discussion.
It seems ridiculous to me that the costs of having and raising children should be subsidised by general taxpayers.
The whole childcare debate reads like "nooo we have to have 3 highly qualified people looking after every 10 kids ....oh why does it cost so much...the government should pay for it "
Lebensraum for St Kilda player development!
[/QUOTE]I can't be bothered going back over every post on this issue but the point was made that a high earning, successful person was breeding to off-set the great unwashed (my interpretation). Another post was about human evolution being held back because medical advances meant people falling short of some standard set by ??? was holding humanity back. I just quoted those two as examples of who might otherwise have been considered as falling short of those ideals, that have actually made huge contributions to humanity. If you can't join the dots, I'm cool with that.
Floated this on a bus full of Australians in Europe last year, all were in favour except for the 4 WA's.Go on. You've got me interested. It appeals to my Teutonic heritage. Tell us more of this plan of yours, Herr Joffaboy............
What was the report on ? I can’t seem to find it.Report on ABC news last night about services hitting the wall due to poor funding levels, particularly 1:1 support.
This a very real issue. The service I run is now losing $30,000 a month. We have been a very successful service over the years getting great outcomes in building life skills and moving people into jobs and saving the tax payer money.
The only option I have is to replace long standing, skilled staff with people just starting work in the sector, nearly all our budget is wages.
It’s been a great scam for the Government. Announce billions of dollars in funding, ensure the rates for services are kept at an artificially low rate to deter new entrants and prevent existing from growing. Save billions and everyone’s a winner....except for the poor bastard that has all this money to help them but can’t find a service.

None were too keen on the 12 players to the Saints, but all loved turning them into slaves. [emoji106]
Hawking has profound physical disabilities, Einstein autism. For some reason I get a visual of a group of blue eyed, blond youth, immaculately dressed, coldly smiling in a group photo, when discussion goes down this path (not your post in particular). It was more to do with the likes of Kylie Jenner being more likely to breed than either of those two i guess. Perky breasts being more of a guarantee that you get to breed than intelligence.
When evolution is strong, it means that those with traits for survival are more likely to survive and pass on those traits.
For example , if cavemen needed fruit from tree's, being tall would be a survival trait.
With modern technology , physical attributes, and to a lesser extent , genetic diseases, have less impact on someones life, and certainly don't prevent them breeding. ( its often controversial when couples with known genetic disorders want to have children ).
My point was that we are unlikely to evolve into anything different within the current framework.
As Gringo sort of pointed out, if some people recognised overpopulation as an issue, and didn't breed, they simply get out bred.
Ironically both Hawking and Einstein had reasonably normal childhoods and each had three children.
You show a great potential for politics. To form the idea is one thing. To be able to sell it is another. The Joffaboy Justice Party has a ring to it. Look out Canberra!

I really think the humanity capacity to work together and support the group gets underrated when we talk about human dominance and evolution. Let’s face it the biggest, fastest, strongest, smartest individual was never going to win out against some of the bigger creatures that have roamed this planet, if working alone.
